Default Some new camaro news

I got this off of midwest f-body

Steve Saleen provides information on the new engine in the 2009 Camaro!

Here is the actual link: http://www.roadandtrack.com/idealbb/...?topicID=13027

CarCrazy: Are the rumors of you teaming up with GM true or false?
Saleen: My team just worked with GM last month on the Transformers movie. We had such a good relationship with them that we are infact going to team up with them on future projects?
CC: What future projects?
Saleen: Well the Camaro project is one of them, I've watched from a distance while they've been putting the production model together. I think it would be foolish on our part if we didn't get a part of that action (Steve laughs).
CC: So are you going to do your own versions of the new Camaro?
Saleen: It's not legally official right now, but that's what we're hoping for.
CC: What kind of upgrades will you make, have you seen the engine GM is using in the Camaro?
Saleen: I hope I don't get in trouble with GM for saying this, but they're using a 6.2 liter 450 horsepower engine for the premium V8 in the 2009 Camaro and the base Corvette. The base V8 will probably be a detuned version of the same 6.2. So we'll just upgrade the 6.2 liter V8 to Saleen level specifications. We're going to upgrade the 6.2 liter V8 if we're given the legal chance by GM. Our base model should have around 485 horsepower, and expect our Extreme Supercharged Camaro to have over 600 horsepower.

holy shiot, finally we are going to have a partner to help make our cars fast(er). I mean from the factory just a simple heads and cam and exhaust, not radical, just a little more aggresive than stock. or even slap a suspension package and a roots style blower on it. with a nice wheel and apperance package like saleen is known for. SWEET!

Saleen makes a nice appearance package? Funny I always thought his cars looked a lot like Saleens are overpriced and underperforming. It won't have any packages from the factory, they will go to his shop to get finished. I would really hate to see the body kit he puts on the Camaro.

Yea I dont know if I can wrap my brain around a Saleen Camaro.... just doesnt sound right. Plus the saleen mustangs have all this crap on them and are so pricey and not even that fast, but then again if you start with a crappy motor, you can really do to much so going from teh high tech high crap 4.6 modular engine to a LSx high tech high cubes high awesome engine may give Saleen an advantage.

Lemme guess, rate the camaro at 400 or 425 and give the Vette a 450 rating...however, they both dyno the same. God save GM!!!

They rated the base 06 vette, 06 gto and 06 cts-v the same @ 400HP, and the SSR, and Trailblazer SS at what 390HP? All of them have LS2's. I think they know that people now know that weight has something to do with it too...

I thought that they already spilt this offer off?

Is this rekindled or old news?

I am not a fan of Saleens work at all bang for buck wise, he makes good parts but hes a stuck up ***** from what i've read and people I know who've met him, plus the body work on his cars looks bad.

I wouldn't buy it but nice to see opt might be around for those who want to do that.

The SSR and TBSS aren't even close in the same class as the Corvette, so it would be my assumption that is the reason why they didn't under-rate them. As for the GTO, it was Pontiac's "halo" car and it was SO much heavier than the Y-Body, so there really wasn't a real reason to have to under-rate that.

I think the reason we saw the F-Bodies under-rated was due to the fact that Chevrolet didn't need 2 cars in almost the same class with almost identical performance in the same showroom. Of course, the buying public who wasn't ignorant knew the truth, but that's besides the point. What about Pontiac you ask? Well, I wouldn't think they'd let a same-priced platform have a 25hp advantage (WS6/SS) over one of another in-house brand.

This is just my opinion, so who knows, I just felt like typing something to reply to the thread

Default Saleen Camaro

http://www.roadandtrack.com/idealbb/...?topicID=13027

Car Crazy: Are you going to bump up the horsepower on your Saleen Mustang cars when Ford adds horsepower in 2009?
Steve Saleen: Yes we are, I just talked to Alan Mulally (Ford Motor Co. Chief Executive) about the 2009 facelift year and what kind of added power the GT and Cobra will get.
CC: What kind of added power did he talk about for the 09 model year?
Saleen: Nothing extreme, it's only a facelift year, but enough to make my current engine upgrades obsolete. They're aiming for 350 horsepower out of the V8 in the GT, and they're only adding about ten or fifteen horsepower to the GT500.
CC: Can you give us an idea of what you'll do to for your Saleen models?
Saleen: We don't know yet exactly, but we've had many meetings on what we want. We're aiming to get around 385 horsepower out of the S281 3 Valve with around 390 lb-ft of torque. The S281 Supercharged model will get 500 horses even with around 460 lb-ft of torque, and expect about a fifteen horsepower increase on the (S281) Extreme Mustang over the 2007 model (that's 565 horsepower and 535 lb-ft of torque).
CC: That's a big power increase on all cars, are the prices going to change?
Saleen: Not counting inflation, the prices should stay the same.
CC: Are the rumors of you teaming up with GM true or false?
Saleen: My team just worked with GM last month on the Transformers movie. We had such a good relationship with them that we are infact going to team up with them on future projects?
CC: What future projects?

So...saleen to work on a camaro, also we see 6.2L 450hp engine in the camaro. Very nice...things are looking good already.

Interesting...

A 600hp blown Camaro huh? Sounds nice. The pricetag certainly won't be.

Love the cars Steve Saleen produces, but yes, the price tag will be scary.

Good to see a confirmation at least on engines, but no way I would pay for Saleen prices, not when you can do the mods minus the nametag price and save a bunch of coin.
