Default My '09 is back from paint!

Well, if the title got your attention, and you're sitting there staring at this thread, check out my diecast 5th gen.

I know a lot of people love to hate flat black paint, but here's my 09 in primer... It's just for temporary until I decide on an actual color... most likely good old ls1 onyx black, undecided on the stripes yet.

I turned this....

Into this...

I think it looks sick in primer!

I like it. Is that a practical application for a real car though? Like, even if a car looks really good in flat black primer, won't it get messed up by the elements and such?

i don't think it'd be bad for a garage car, other than a whole lotta people will probably say something like - your car looks unfinished, stolen, etc... but who cares what they have to say, its your car anyway.

right now, my 85 ta is partially in black primer, and i like it because clean or dirty it looks the same - flat black. especially because it gets hit with a stupid city sprinkler everyday, and i'd hate to have a gloss car getting hit with sprinklers. my ta won't be primer forever though, i hope to go onyx black one day with it too, and get some airbrushed gold birds for it - kinda like burt reynolds edition 3rd gen. hahaha

Default Jada models...

Sounds like you're into diecast models and it looks like you did a good job. What do you think of the Jada models? I think they're kinda crappy, especially compared to Ertl. I just took apart a Welly 2002 Z28, and repainted a Ertl 1996 Z28 and a Road Legend 1967 Camaro and all three seemed better than the Jada. JMHO

Umm, not really into the diecasts, I've just got a couple (my old cars pretty much). I used to be really into 1:25 plastic models and 1:10 RC in my pre-permit/pre-license/pre-actual-f-body days.

But yeah, I do agreee with you the Jada models aren't that spectacular. The actual metal casting of the '09 seems pretty good and nice and sharp, but as far as interior details and such, they look like crap. Of course, being this is a "Bigtime Muscle" model, the proportions of the rims are insane, but it looks cool for a toy.

I also took apart and slapped some "Fikse FM10-style" rims on a Welly '02 SS a few years back, and it's a bit more detailed as far as the interior and "engine bay" goes, but I didn't think the body was right on. Here's a pic of a 4th gen meeting a 5th gen....

I lowered it by cutting off some of the spring, so they got bowed inward like that. Sadly, it really happens to the 4th gens, when people try and tuck 20+ rims under there.... I see it all too often here in the Bay Area.

Where'd you find a 5th gen diecast model, and how much did it cost? I've been looking for one for the longest time, I was ready to settle on a matchbox even...

I found this particular one at Wal-Mart, I also have a stock metallic red concept (no deep dish rims) I got at Target, they're pretty much anywhere they sell those "DubCity" diecasts now. They're like $25, no more than $30.

I bought one from wal-mart also. It's white w/ hugger orange stripes. Think mine will stay that way though as I like that color combo. The flat black looks good though. That would be cool to one day have a real life 5th gen with a matching model.
