Yahoo Exposes 2010 Camaro and its Engine/Options
I'm pretty sure it's going to be LS3 powered. All those jackets they have floating around in Ontario say "LS3 Camaro". Unless they're just blowing money on fake jackets, I think it's safe to say that the engine will be an LS3 for the base V8, and a 3.6 Caddi engine for the upper 300+rwhp V6.
i just hope they have the headlights like the concept lol i could care less about the engine, it's not going to stay stock for more than a few hours.... there will be a nitrous kit under the hood the same day!!
Here's a little something I found:
"In December 1966, Chevrolet then quietly released one of the most famous options codes of all time, option Z-28. Unpublicized and unknown by most of the buying public (and most Chevrolet sales people for that matter) and not mentioned in any sales literature, the only way someone could order the Z-28 package was to order a base Camaro with the Z-28 option, mandatory front disc brakes with power assist, and the Muncie 4-speed transmission. You could not order the SS package, automatic transmission, air conditioning, or the convertible. What you got was a unique 302 CID small block (Non-California emission cars were labeled MO while California emission engines were labeled MP) that was created by taking the 327 block and installing the short-stroke 283 crank. Specifically designed to compete in the Club of America Trans Am racing series which placed a 305 CID limit on its entries, the Z-28 was available to the public solely to qualify the car for racing. Advertised horsepower was listed at just 290bhp, which was not very impressive until one hooked it up to a dyno and got actual readings of 360-400bhp. The Z-28 also came with a competition suspension, broad racing stripes on the hood and trunk lid and could be combined with the RS option package. There was no Z-28 badging at all, lest it attract to much attention. The Z-28 proved to be difficult to launch on the street because its high revving engine was lethargic under 4000rpm and worked best when it was shifted at 7500rpm (!). Once it got going, the Z28 was tough to beat and boosted a 140mph top speed and numerous racing victories. Only 602 Z-28s were sold in 1967, making it a truly desirable collectable."

Exactly, thats WHEEL hp, manufacturers rate at the flywheel. The V6 has 300 FLYWHEEL hp, so probably 260RWHP.
Which should be what the 300hp V6 will get...
Which should be what the 300hp V6 will get...
There might be a 1 MPG difference in fuel usage. As for me, I'd rather have the extra 100 or 200hp. Thank you very much.
The only thing I was really thinking was smaller displacement = 2 or 3 mpg better. Hell, my old 350 91 RS got at least 18mpg, which wasn't THAT bad for a big gas sucking truck engine. But if it's gonna make over 300rwhp, us V8 guys are going to have some serious competition.
thats why I'll never buy a car in Canada(of course with a good CAD money value vs USD). I bought my SS in Florida, and I'll buy my next Camaro in the US too.
The LS designation thing was questionable. But everything else in that yahoo article you can "take to the bank".
I typed up a more lengthy post with much more detail, and decided that I dont want someone to lose their job.
This isnt someone I just bumped into at a bar and claimed they are a GM rep. Its professional level contact.
Besides, the LS3 as the base V8 and a supercharged version were widely expected (and logical), even by me especially after first hand reports of the test cars. I was just surprised to hear that the Z and SS would be reversed, but we've been hearing that speculation for awhile also too. But there you have it. The only objection I received was about the LS designation for the base V6. Possibly because plans are changing to replace the base v6 with the turbo 4 cylinder, but thats complete speculation on my part. I didnt ask.

If they're gonna go retro, they should go all the way.
Z28 (available with few options, suspension & brake upgrades, 302 ci GEN4 <probably destroked ls2>)
SS (Loaded with options, LS3, possibly even stroked to 396 ci so they could throw some SS 396 badges on it)
ZL1 (LS7... nice replacement for the original alum. 427, even though I've heard they're gonna stop making them)
I'm not a big fan of going to forced induction. The Camaro has always done without it in the past, and done well. I'd be all over a Z28 with a 302... wouldn't be hard to make either... LS2 block + 3" stroke = high revving 302.
Of course, I know it'll never happen that way... just a thought.

It would kind of be like making the z06 corvette the top dog again and make the ZR1 below it. Wouldn't make much sense. Rough comparison since there is absolutely no confusion on which model is better, but you get my point. That's how people see it now, why change it?
I suspect the blown version will be a straight transplant from the 09' CTS-V. It doesn't make since that GM would delay the introduction of the blown version past 10' if it's already going to be out in the caddy a year prior. Word is that the caddy won't get forged internals, but this too isn't logical. 550bhp is official for 09' and I can't envision GM putting a blower making that much power with a 100k mile warranty and cast internals. Think we should keep an eye out for the specs of the internals on the caddy, since within all likely hood it will probably be the same powerplant in the top camaro. If it's forged, were gold.
Personally, either engine would be fine with me. They are both great engines worthy of being in the base Camaro. The only problem I see with putting the LNF engine in the base Camaro would be that it's a base model. All of the other cars that have the LNF engine are the top models. SS, GXP, RedLine. But, who knows...
It should be noted that 09' CTS-V will best the Z06 by 45hp. It seems many of the arguments of the conceived self-imposed horsepower ratings are based on old GM marketing tactics. I think next years introduction of the CTS-V (the fastest sedan that will have ever been produced, according to nurburgring) shatters that old notion and marks a new era for GM's marketing. The idea that if a fantastic machine is presented to a consumer, they'll buy it solely based on that merit. It's a novel idea to some in corporate america but other auto makers caught on to it some time ago.

but to an earlier post, im sure with some bolt ons 300RWHP is very doable, intake and tune and new exhaust should yeild very good results.
