What he said. More marketing hype than anything. 170k miles in my wife's Acura and not hint of any problem. My buddies drag radial car (Procharger/7.30's 1/4 mi.) had 120 something passes on it before he took it to his engine builder to get freshened up and he said keep doing what you're doing, it's in incredible shape. Maybe there is a better oil out there but, Mobil 1 has been good to us.

Cmon guys, do your research, oil isnt just oil. UOA is the only way to tell whats the best oil for the engine and UOA's have proven that my 1 and 2 are the best for our cars...

My vote goes for german catrol.
Although Pennzoil platinum is right up there. Price is comparible and the pennzoil is readily available whereas the german stuff not everyone can get their hands on.

I have seen enough tests to show that Royal Purple is better, but for the cost under average conditions Mobile 1 is the best value. As others have said, "change oil often."
As a side note, I use generic dino oil in my '07 Avalanche and change it according to the dashboard light. That oil is well used. I've let this used 7,000 mile dino oil sit in a cold 45 degree garage and then seen it pour like molasses. Synthetic does not do this.

I used to use Mobil 1 synthetic religiously. Just recently my mechanic mentioned to me how disgusting the inside of my heads and engine looked. He said if he had to guess, he'd bet I never changed the oil before the 3K mile mark. I always change before I hit 3K or 3 months, and have always used Mobil 1 synthetic. He said Mobil 1 isn't very good to use. More marketing than anything else. That is why everyone says "Mobil 1 synthetic is the best!"
I'm using Royal Purple now, but that stuff is getting very expensive.

Unless your running thousands of HP and half a million $ invested in your engine, oil is oil. Just change it when you're supposed to and you'll never know the difference. Why spend more than you have to to add more gold to the saudi's rolls royce's? Sorry, just my opinion. I still don't understand while oil prices are down, we're paying more than ever for a quart of oil?
