I've used royal purple and mobil 1 and IMO, they both seem the same to me. I used castrol syntec for a while and it was pretty much the same. I don't think it's really worth payin the extra 2-3$ a quart when you can go get something that works the same if not better for cheaper. Them damn royal purple and k&n filter oil changes get expensive after a while.

This is it. Amsoil is done! The oil exceeded a year in service, with 14,000 miles on the ticker, and no filter change! Well, if the year hadn't ended, we would have had to change the filter now -- it finally reached our insolubles cap, 2,000 miles after Mobil 1. The main thing that stands out on this, our final Amsoil sample, is the ridiculous viscosity. This 5W30 oil has now thickened out to a 15W40 -- argue whether it matters if you like, but we believe engine builders spec an oil for a reason, and this oil is far, far thicker now than intended for the LS1. Switching to our flush Mobil 1 netted a nearly instant 10% improvement in fuel economy, and the engine runs a heckuva lot smoother too. To Amsoil's credit, wear metals remain in check, but we will soon see whether that was really thanks to the oil or just to engine break-in.

mobil 1 used to be the best oil with the most synthetic but now they turned it into crap, some say its not even a full synthetic any more, other oils within the same price range or even cheaper have much better wear protection and have the tests to prove it, i have been really denying the fact that mobil is really that bad, well i guess finally i decided its a good idea to switch. i took all my quarts of mobil 1 and returned them at walmart. instead, i bought the valvoline syn power, on the jug it already says new formula is 4x better wear protection then mobil 1. i bought a 5 quort jug for $19 when mobil 1 cost $24. so who ever still uses mobil 1 should atleast think twice about overpaying and buying oil that is not so good anymore.

Either way Mobile 1 has worked for me. If you truly hate Mobile 1 I would head towards Pennzoil Platinum over Valvoline Syn any day. But in the end it's your engine, and you know what's best for it

I see people who use Mobil oil also can't spell it. Thats weird, you'd think they'd seen it on the bottle so many times....
Anyways....the link posted is 5 to 6 years old and the OT is the NEW Mobil oil.

Mobil 1 is a good oil. The problem is at operating temp there 30 weight more of a 20 weight oil. LSx's are designed for a 30 weight at operating temp. The reason I only tried M1 once was I saw lower oil pressure at operating temp and I did not like that. I personally use whatever good oil I can find ![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
BTW google a couple months back and you'll find Valvoline caught Mobil 1 not passing the seq IVA wear test.... By ALOT

I agree, Mobil 1 was probably good in the day. But now there are many other brands that are a lot cheaper that have the same protection. Shoot in our race car I used Torco Synthetic $10 qt. I didn't notice the differnece except in my wallet. Now we use Castrol synthetic, not to bad on price but I can hear the difference in how the engine sounds.
Now I'm not saying that Castrol is the best it's just what we use. I also run a System 1 filter to keep track of what is going on inside as well. http://www.system1filters.com/
Basically, if you want to spend $10 per quart that is your business. But I don't think that any of the name brands are bad. It just comes down to buyer preference.
