Default simple question... mechanics quote

Local mechanic offers to install my LT's, fabb up a 3" y-pipe, weld the cats onto them, install elect. cutout (ashtray), motor mount, plugs/wires for 600.

I asked, if i were to do headers on my own, he says 250-300 for y-pipe fab (will weld up cats) + everything else. Yay or nay? I'm in NY if that helps adjust the prices a bit...

And YES, he knows what he's doing. He's got a low 9 sec camaro for sale that he built himself.

what brand LT's?

EDIT: doesnt matter.....either way, considering the cost of the TSP catted y-pipe here: http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=189&catid=45 the price seems right.

btw, just because he has a 9 sec camaro doesnt mean that he doesnt want to screw you out of money.... food for thought.

sounds like a good price to me. headers are a bitch to do if you dont have a lift... even with a lift it'll take them a good 3-5 hours and usual labor prices are around $75 an hour plus you have to add in parts for the y pipe.

Pretty much what i was thinking. And they're ebay headers, so i'm sure he's gonna be doing some k-member shaving! haha... but damn, 600. It's just a high number as it is. So spending the 3-5 hours myself (with help of my own mechanic) to save 300 might not be worth it....
