Default 1997 Corvette, fire damaged, but engine, transmission, drivetrain good for $1500?

This seems like a steal to me, someone I know has a 1997 Corvette for sale which was damaged in a house fire. He is asking $1500 for it and it include LS1 engine, T56 trans, drivetrain, 2 inch lowering suspension, and brand new clutch. The car only had 17,000 miles on it and was damaged in a house fire. Up until the fire it was a show car. The title is clear and frame is perfect. Engine and trans are perfect from what he tells me. Should I grab this?

I am just worried if anything on the top end of the motor may be melted and/or damaged...

For $1500 buck I would think you could put a little money back into it..It still is a Corvette after all.

get it and decide how bad the damage is when you get it. It may even be repairable. Never know, he may think it's toast(no pun intended) and it might be fine.

Uuuuhhhhh.....Hell yeah grab that!! There's no way in hell you couldn't get your $$ back if you decided against it afterwards. Like stated above, it's still a vette after all.

I wasen't planning on fixing the car up, the car itself is a total loss. Its the engine/trans/drivetrain im interested in.

Bottom end + tranny worth some bucks

If the Top end is fine then worth even more..
The metal for scrap if you cut it all up would put the icing on the cake
Do it and don't wait somone else who thinks on thier feet will get it quick.

the driveline is what's worth money. With the miles on it if you can drop the whole driveline(everything but frame and body parts can be unbolted and moved seperatly) If you can get that out without it being wrecked you can sell is as a whole for $5-8k depending on condition. It's like 8 bolts and the whole damn thing comes off. Kinda like this minus the frame they built for it

Yeah the seller claims everything is in perfect shape, minus obviously the body/interior/etc. The chassis only has 17k on it, car was only used as a show car from what he tells me. Title is clean.

I would guess not.

Do you want the tranny to sell or do you have a Vette? The Vette T56 is different from the F body T56 and not interchangeable to the best of my knowledge.

Do you have pics of it. I bought a fire damaged car to part out and there may be way less there that you think. You would make money but it would be a pain in the ***.

Yeah I forgot about the transmission being different.

CAR IS JUNK for the most part, top end of the motor is completely melted and destroyed...

If it's that bad I would assume that the block or heads are possible damaged. Sounds like a large paperweight unless you need Vette chassis parts.

whats the going rate for a vette roller these days? I know an fbody chassis is around 2-5 depending on condition/what comes with it.
