Default How the hell do you get the crank bolt loose??

I am currently camming my 01 T/A and ran into some trouble with the crank bolt. Earlier today I bought a decent sized breaker bar, 3'' extension, and 24mm socket...the tools I need to break this bolt loose. Instead of breaking the bolt loose, I been breaking my tools. I am using some pieces of exhaust pipe for leverage, apprx. 3 feet. First I broke the first 3'' extension, next the breaker bar broke, and then another extension broke. I really would like to get through this step and move onto the next. Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

I am using the LS1Howto guide and it is great, I noticed he used a 1/2'' drive socket, extension, breaker bar where I just (tried) to use 3/8''. Should it be able to be done if I just bring back the broken **** and get 1/2'' drive stuff instead?

would definitely help, 1/2" drive impacts do wonders.

I would definitely be using 1/2" to break that bad boy loose. You could probably snap 3/8" stuff all day..

Atleast a 1/2 inch drive. I went and bought a 3/4" drive tq wrench from harbor freight to torque it back down. That big SOB worked like a charm. Only cost about $70 bucks.

1/2 inch impact wrench is the easiest. but 3/8 i doubt will break that sob loose. youll just keep breaking more and more pieces

Aside from a 1/2" impact wrench, you can get a 1/2" breaker bar and use a piece of pipe over the end to multiply the torque (aka "cheater bar").

I dunno, I broke a 3' 1/2" drive breaker bar getting mine off. Stepped up to the 3/4 drive with 3 people on it and it finally came off. Funny thing, I took a crank pulley off of an eclipse today, I just put the breaker bar against the floor and flicked the starter to break it loose. Thats the "reccomended" method if you don't have an impact. The pulley is like the same size as our power steering haha.

1/2" breaker bar and a pipe on the end of it so you have about 3-4 ft of leverage should turn it. Of course a 1/2 impact drive and 130 psi will do pretty easily as well but not everyone has that option

When you try next: hold as much torque as you can with one hand, then with a 2lb hammer hit about a foot away from the bolt on the breaker bar (poormans impact wrench).

I was going to advise this method.
Used it on my old car and worked like a charm.
1/2inch is a must man.

1/2 inch impact dumdumdum. I would not reccommend the starter idea above could reallyt break something. If not I would use a cheater bar. Take the extension off you lose torque.
