Default keeping factory manifolds? how much power?

Hey guys

I posted a thread earlier about having an exhuast that would pas emissions in california. I now have a new question.

How about just keeping the factory exhaust setup and purchasing a borla adjustable catback. That will be all I do as far as exhaust goes. How much power would I actually be surrendering versus getting midlength headers and a catted Y?

I already have an ls6 intake and a P/P TB and a lid. I will be purchasing a tuner, drag radials, 3:73's, and a shift kit soon. What should I be running with these mods and the catbck?

My goal is to just have a nice, streetable car. But one that I can take to the track on weekends and run low 12's.

I was running 393/365 when I had edelbrock shorty headers and stock cats with 2.5 inch y and magnaflow catback. Numbers in sig are with pacesetters and catted 3 inch Y with same magnaflow catback.

I just put my H pipe on and Im anxious to see if there was any gain, sure feels like it!

Where are you in cali?

I am in the navy. Next year I will be on base in San Diego.
How are you going to pass emissions with that setup?

With stock manis and y, there's quite a bit of power to be had. Especially if you do H/C or go Forced Induction.

IIRC, wasn't there a set of shorty headers that were CARB approved and perfectly legal to run? They were about the size of a stock mani, but were actually tubes and would help decrease the amount of lost power. They were CARB approved because they didn't move the cats and could bolt right up to the stock y.

I'd say to hunt down the approved shorties and get a slightly better (stainless) y-pipe. You'd be perfectly fine emmisions-wise and would decrease the amount of lost power.

I've seen JBA shorties pick up between 8-12WHP through a stock Y pipe. With an aftermarket catted y, I don't see why 3-5 more would be out of the question.

Facto of the matter is, the factory y-pipe just sucks, and longtubes are your best bet. The do make longtubes with full emissions hookups, you know.

Well I thought the armed force and cars on base off base have a few execptions. So I heard tho. No more then 30 if that. Port match the stock manifolds, and see if you can get away with some high flow cats.

Or pick up some 01-02 manis from somebody on here. They are pretty much shortys and better than the older style manis you have.

You can do it if you have a dremel. Few hours and new gaskets, can of paint.

Not true. In cali if you reside here for more than 90 days, your car has to comply even if it is registered out of state. This means they can give you tickets for it anyways even with out of state plates. Also, you have to have it cali smogged to get a base pass. If you don't want to try to weasel around the smog, you need to keep the stock cats no exceptions. Some good shorties and Y pipe would help, there are several that are carb legal.

if you extrude hone it will cost you almost 800 bucks and all it does is enlarge the runners... on the other hand you can get them ported by a sponsor for 190 to 200 and pick up 5 to 10 hp from them.

I was looking at doing this set up with ls6 intake,pp throttle body, lid, pp 5.3 heads and a stock sounding cam that wasnt too radical and basically was told by 2 or 3 sponsors that 400 rwhp was going to be about the limit on stock manifolds since they wont scavenge like lts would.

400 RWHP is good for me. Like I said, I just want something I can take to cruises and car shows on the weekends.

I want to cruide to the track, run 12's, then drive home with the AC blowing cold
