Has Chevy ever officially rated our cars' top speed?

I got asked yesterday what the top speed of my car is. As meaningless as that is, (especially since it was coming from a Supra fanatic fresh off an assignment in Japan) I didn't know. I have never seen any official word or track tested spec on top speed either.
I do know there was a factory governor most every model year IF Z rated tires were not ordered, but thats about all the info I could find.
And I've pegged the speedo in my last Camaro(93 LT1) so I'm sure the LS1's are more than capable than of least 160ish.
I'm just curious if anybody knows what they'll do stock, ***** out, hammer to the floor and unlimited track in front of you.

If you had unlimited track id say it would go a little over 170mph. The govern I thought was around 167 or something so if that was taken off I would say you could get up there. I've had the car past 155 on the interstate before so I know with unlimited track you would probably go higher. It's hard to tell though

I tried searching. Since the search feature no longer returns results of anything even remotely resembling your entry... it didn't work. I googled a bit too and only found the bit about < Z rated being limited anywhere from 110mph to 130mph depending on model year and tires.
But couldn't come up with anything regarding the Z rated from the factory top speed. So I figured someone here might know just off the top of their head.
Limited at 162, now I know that much. I was unaware it was limited at all by anything other than the laws of physics. Halfway there!
Nobody knows what it will REALLY do, sans governor??
If not, oh well. I'm a 4.10 kinda guy anyway, top speed is overrated and something only the Supra crowd uses as a dick measuring contest.
I imagine fccs is probably right, its gotta be around 170ish stock.
As trivial as it is, its kinda annoying that I can't find it anywhere on the far and wide interweb. Tried searching mags, edmunds, reviews from '99 etc and nobody mentions it. These days even a Hyundai specs top speed right in the brochure lol. That alone is interesting.

Yea for a stock fbody, without even a lid or exhaust or ANYTHING you probably could do around 170 but it would take a while to get there. The search has been like broken for weeks so don't bother searching either. I wouldn't worry much though, it's easy to take the govern off anyways.

i deleted my speed limiter mwahaha. haven't been over 100 since i did it though.
and pegging the speedo in a 93 is a lot easier if you got the 115 speedo haha. mine was governed at 105 since it didn't come with the z rated tires.

LOL at the comments bout 200mph, removing the limiter, and top speed being useless... thought I covered that last one already and wasn't askin about removing the limiter.
Anywho thanks for the info guys(to those who contributed) its gotta be roughly near what I thought, it was just a curiosity.
When the time comes I'll be going with 4.10s anyway, and the only racing I do is drag racing

I've done 180mph after mods, stock wise I hit that 162mph limit and thought I broke something...
I'm sure 170mph stock would have been easy to hit considering it had quite a bit of pull in 5th hitting that 162.
I didn't trust my suspension after 180mph... felt like that speed required something tighter.

I remember some early nuts testing the "drag limited" speed of a stock 2002 Camaro SS, Corvette and Z06. Camaro was 167, Corvette was 177 and the Z06 was 172. Temp humidity and air pressure will always play a big roll at results.
As I remember the reason for the test was to measure the top speed reduction in the Z06 due to brake vent cooling drag. And the Camaro was just hangin around so they through it in for ***** and grins.
This was in print somewhere not online.
