For a stock geared M6 car (3.42 rear gears), 2nd gear at 6000 rpm is 75 mph. Now I know you said it might have gears, but it would have to be 2.73s for you to be in 2nd gear and do 85 mph. More often than not, people swap gears to numerically higher gears, which would lower the top speed in each gear - not increase it.

I bought mine about a two years ago. Looked about the same condition as the one you are looking at with 47k on the clock. Zero mods, not even a K&N...nada. Pulled thru first gear pretty quick, but I was coming from a truck, so it just felt nice and quick. Once I started driving it to work noticed I was getting passed by grandmas when I thought I was doing 80. Yup...4.10's in the rear and they never got it calibrated for it. Wouldn't have thought there were gears, when I didn't see any other mods...but they could have put everything back to stock if they had modded. Anyway...you never know.

Okay so maybe he spun it closer to 6500 and was "close" to 80 on the speedo, seems logical to me. Anyways, great looking car and good luck with the purchase! Let the modding game begin!

edit: didn't see that he said 85 first, might have been a little off but oh well!

Well, im not saying you can't get up to 75-80 in 2nd...you can. But with 3.42s in the read, you have to spin the motor to 6400 rpms..And the stock valvetrain wont last too long doing that.

i never bring my rpm's above 6 i always shift right at 6 or 61 the rev limiter is at 62 so i dont think you can spin it up to 6400

My normal shift point in 2nd gear is 77 mph. 01 stock m6 and 3.42s.

Correct me if im wrong, but are you sure that this car is a true SS. Dont they say SS some where on the interior. And i cannot tell from the Pictures, but the wheels dont look like they have the Chevy emblem on the center cap. Also it has Z28 style exhaust tips, which could very well have been changed, but im just tellin you to watch out.

Camaro SS interiors are the same as Z28's. They dont say SS anywhere inside unless someone had badges custom sowed or whatever into the seats.

hmmm...my ss has camaro ss emblem around the radio bezel...i have z28 tips because i got a good deal on a borla muffler with the tips already welded, but he should double check the vin# to make sure it is an ss...i think all SS came with 342's and some z28's came with 273 or 323's, should be another indication of a z28...but regardless seems like a good deal...but maybe you can knock some money off if you prove the seller wrong.

Not all SS's came with 3.42s. Its based on the transmission. All t56 cars came with 3.42s, and A4 cars came with 2.73s or 3.23s.

i was thinking the same thing about the ss around the radio bezel where the this car just says camaro.

I dont know if that SS is some sort of option, but like someone else said the car would still be a good deal if its a clone but i would check that out.

when i ran the vin number on carfax it shows the following

VIN: 2G1FP22GX12110171
Vehicle: 2001 CHEVROLET CAMARO Z28

now im not sure if it shows z28 for legit SS's since im guessing the SS is like the WS6 and only way to find out if its a real SS and not a clone is by looking at the RPO code on the door.

either way car looks pretty good

Once you upgrade valvetrain only the rod bolts become suspect in spinning 6500+ rpm. I for one have a 6600 rev limiter now after mods. spinning to 6400 in 2nd off stock gears is kinda fun since you get to such a high speed, but 3.42's are dog gears compared to 4.10. Night and day difference once you mod + gears... heck gears alone.
