This topic has bean pretty well beaten to death.
While LT1's are stout motors and cheaper than LS1s, the aftermarket is considerably larger for the LS1, and they seem to get better HP numbers mod-for mod. Both are small-block chevys! LT1 = Gen II, LS1 = Gen III. LS1 also has a 50+ bhp rating in stock trim.
Do the same poll for the LS1 vs the LS3 you'll get the same general answer: "LS3 is newer, has more base hp, and responds to mods better". But the older motor is still stout.

LT1 were produced, what, from 92-98? 6 years?
LS1s/Gen III & IV have been in production since 97. thats 12 years of cars out there, you would think that their parts are more common hence cheaper.

Lt1 is pretty much a dead/obsolete aftermarket. Like posted above Ls1 responds better to mods/tuning and there stuff for the motor is much more available...Ive owned 2 modded LT1's and this LS1 would run rings around them. In some cases the LS is close to a second faster stock.

Demand is higher for ls1 parts. Take an economics course.

The better engine is the LS1, there is no debate about this. In terms of power, MPG, fuel injection, weight, response to mods, etc, etc.
Now which one some one likes, now that's a different story.

I think that they're more expensive because (a) the demand is higher, and (b) maybe they're more complicated to develop and produce given the newer, more complex GEN III/IV SBC architecture? Just a theory. I could be wrong.

who actually voted lt1? its the inferior motor all around. there is NOTHING better about it. nothing. now, someone might want to be the "underdog" with it but it is INFERIOR.

Its really not a debate or question.
The LS series mechanically a superior design to the LT1/Small block in ever possible way. You can't argue with the facts.
However, some people still prefer the LT1 engines over the newer LS series. Thats different, you could agree that the LS is a better design but still prefer the LT1 for other reasons.
