It really is worth the extra money to get them coated, not only to prevent rust but it also helps control the temperatues. If you go uncoated, and buy header wrap it will probable be just as much if not more then if you just got coated to begin with

I have coated Pacesetters that look like **** on the bottom where the primaries run into the collector. I live in north Mississippi, so salt isn't an issue. The stuff simply hasn't held up well over the last year on my daily driven car.
If you order painted headers, make sure you strip it off and repaint them with some real heat resistant paint. The stuff they come with is just to protect for the trip to your door.

Most headers start to look rusty on the bottom if daily driven. Mine are. The top of the headers that you can see when looking in the engine bay still look good. I'd say go with coated. You don't wanna wish you did a few months from now..

i found plenty of write ups for the ls1's but i have the lt1 is there alot of difference or is it basically the same, but thanks for the link anyway it still gives me an idea

the write up is basically the same. you gotta remove a lot of stuff to get these headers in the lt1's crowded engine bay. i believe removing the steering linkage and pulling the motor mount bolts are a requirement on the lt1's. try posting in the lt1 section of this board and youll get a lot better responses

Well I had the un coated pace setters. I installed them and after the second start up the black finish started to come off. So then I took the headers back off the car and wrapped them included the Y pipe as well; since I was there and should do. spent close to 100 bucks on the wrap and the metal zip ties to make it all right. Then threw them back in the car. Fiberglass sucks, wrapping really sucks, and it really does not look all that good. Looks like somethign that was pulled out of a a coffin in egypt. I took them off about a year later and the mositure that the wrap held started to rust the pipes from the out side. I threw those away and bought a set of stainless steel headers and I have never looked back. Plus hand tig stainless looks like pure sex, and it does not dicolor from heat or anything. Just my history with Pacesetter. No doubt they are cheaper than most, but you get what you pay for.
