A buddy of mine has a GMC 2500 4x4 with the 8.1 in it.
He's got a built bottom end, injectors and a whipple supercharger on it.
That huge truck has run mid 7's in the 1/8th. He literally got like 2mpgs on that tune/setup though so he changed it. Still runs low low 8's.

i wouldnt waste your time. the 8.1 is nothing like an LS motor. it is basically an old style 454 thats FI. Raylar makes the only performance parts for these engines that i know of as far as cam/heads are conderned. these motors are used in marine apps. designed for towing, not high perforance street cars. I have one of these motors in my 01 2500hd, its great for pulling, but doesnt run like an ls1 at all. i would spend my money on a diff combo, but thats just my $.02
