Hey, first post, hope this is the correct section for this. I just stumbled across this site and I must say that I'm very impressed with the amount of content here. So to the point...
I have a V6 '99 Camaro and it has served me well (first car). It has been a couple years now though, and I'm looking to move up. Currently I'm torn between two options: a fourth gen trans am (specifically with the ram air package) and a G8 GT. I test drove the G8 and liked it a lot, have not had a chance to drive the other.
I feel that the G8 has more utility, but I really like the trans am as well. As far as speed, I have read that the G8 falls somewhat short, but not by much. Handling I have don't really know how they compare (unless it's fair to say the trans am will be relatively similar to my current ride).
Any general thoughts that could help ease the decision regdumdumduming having these cars for everyday driving as a primary vehicle would be great (I don't really drive a lot though to be fair and I enjoy the low, "stiff" ride of the camaro).
Also, not terribly interested hearing about value/price difference, just the cars themselves (though obviously the g8 is a fair amount more as they are new). Thanks.

G8 without a doubt. SO much more potential in the LS3 they have than the LS1. I mean dont get me wrong I love mine, but the LS3 is simply bigger and better! Its just too bad that the G8 doesnt have that sweet 'ram air' package
Sorry I just laugh a little bit every time I hear that!
If you want to build an all out drag car WS6, DD fun car with 500+rwhp (after H/C and whatnot) G8.

No man sorry I wasn't trying to talk **** its just that every time I hear ram air I think of some backwoods bumpkin with a ZZ top bedumdumdum talking about the new ram air pontiacs, just makes me giggle.
I believe that the 'big hood' birds were all WS6's, but I dont really know much about TA's and their options.
Best of luck, post up when/what you decide!

zmonster, I just rethought about what you said :-p The GT that I will be looking at has the L76 rather than the LS3 found in a GXP. Change your mind any or still believe the same?
For what it's worth...no mods for quite some time. A large price tag on a small college salary really drains resources for other endeavors...

These are two pretty different cars... Personally, I can't ever see buying a four door over a two unless I really needed it.
And to the mean camaro drivers, we know the hood doesn't add any power, it just looks so purdy

The only reason my parents agreed to entertain the g8 is because it is four doors. Then while at work though I was browsing the web and came across a very low mileage t/a and it looked very nice (I've liked these cars for some time). I realize they are not exactly of the same class, and yes I have looked at GTOs as well.

In order to make the choice I'd recommend driving a T/A, handling wise it won't feel too different than your current ride, but the extra power will definitely feel better
.
Overall though, if you can swing a G8, I think it's the better car without question.
