LQ4 Longblock - $800?
Hi, I'm new to the forums. I have a 66 Chevelle with a 350 that I'm preparing to swap for an LQ4.
I bought this a couple of days ago. It's an 05-06 Gen III LQ4 w/aluminum heads. The motor is a re-man and was in the original shipping crate when I bought it. However, there is slight soot in the exhaust ports, so it appears to have been ran. Do they dyno these before they ship them out, or is it likely that it has been installed? I popped off a valve cover, and it looks brand new...still has the little green paint marks from the reman. It almost even looks like it still has the anti corrosion coating on it, similar to what you see on a new brake rotor. Right now the block is at my local race shop getting checked out. The guy is a SBC BBC guy, so hopefully he can manage with a more modern engine.
Do you guys think $800 was too much of a risk considering the lack of history?

um i would say a remaned long block for 800 is a steal? when i was shopping a while back i couldnt find a junkyard motor with reasonable mileage for less than 700 ... granted it had a few more items that came with it..
i think you got a great deal....

$800 wasn't the price from a retailer. A reman engine (like this one) is ~$3000 from PAW. I purchased the engine second hand. The guy I bought it from bought it the same way. He knew no history on the motor, just bought it from a guy in his racing click. I think it's passed three hands already never being installed. The origin of this baby is unknown. All I have to go by is the reman tag on the motor and the sticker on the crate. Still waiting to hear back from the shop.
