what metal is ls1 f body oil pan made of?

Default what metal is ls1 f body oil pan made of?

Kinda dumb ? but im thinking its cast?

Im asking so i know if i can use my mig to weld on a return flange, or if im going to have to take it somewhere and have them tig it. thanks

its cast aluminum. gm wouldn't invest that much into oil pans.

its aluminum. to prove the point, put a magnet to it, it wont stick

it is cast aluminum. yes, it can be welded, but it needs to be tig welded. if you need a welder, send me a pm.

its cast aluminum... Cheapest way to produce large quantity items. All oil pans are cast. I am not sure i think its lost foam casting like the Ecotec blocks. Not positive though

Careful, not ALL are cast. Maybe all F bodies etc. But not ALL. To be honest, it's a good thing, much better than my 94 Saturn with a steel one that is all rusted out and needs to be replaced.
