Burning regular when the owner's manual specifies premium won't void the warranty, nor damage the engine, even the most finicky automakers say. "You're giving up perhaps just a little bit of performance that a customer wouldn't really even notice, it's so slight," says Furey.
Automakers say they don't test premium engines on regular to check the difference, but some auto engineers estimate that power declines roughly 5%.
5% on a 300hp motor is 15hp, I run premium to get the most out of my car but most LS1's run perfectly fine on regular, you are just leaving some power on the table.

Has anyone actually READ their owner's manual?
See these portions of the 1998 Camaro manual:
"If you have the 5.7L engine (VIN Code G), use premium unleaded gasoline rated at 91 octane or higher for best performance. You may use middle grade or regular unleaded gasolines, but your vehicle may not accelerate as well."
"Be sure the posted octane for premium is at least 91 (at least 89 for middle grade and 87 for regular)."
And for those who can't imagine why anyone could possibly live with a little decreased performance and think people that do so should sell their car, we all see your fluffed-up feathers and are not impressed.

there is just literally no way in hell that you popped an engine from 87 octane.
