Default Question about Impala 5.3

Can anyone tell me what is different, if anything, about the 5.3 in the Impala SS? They are mounted transverse and I am wondering if the block is the same as the RWD versions. Is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same and can a RWD starter be bolted to the block? Thanks

I heard that the LS4's in the 5.3 impalas were a modified version of the LS2 so that it could fit the FWD platform. I am not sure about the bellhousing, but I would just look for a used LSX engine from a RWD/4x4 platform instead of dealing with the LS4.

The reason I need to know is because I make adapters to use the LS engines with various transmissions. I have a customer who wants to use the Impala engine for his installation because it is shorter in front and he already has the engine. I am needing to know if the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same as other LS engines and if the Impala engine has the bolt holes in the block for the stock starter. The starter in the Impala is bolted to the transaxle rather than to the block.

I have found out that the bellhousing bolt pattern is different. Now I just need to find out what transmission is used and I can get the dimensions from there.

Sorry about that. Didn't know what your intentions were. Maybe you can look in the LS4 powered section of this board? Theres a number of guys on here with LS4 Impalas, Montes, and Grand Prixs
