I just wanted to see what the max RPM's people on here allow there LSX to go while the engine and oil are cold. In my firebird which as the 3800 series II engine. I don't care at all, I rev that bitch up to 6k rpms over and over again on a cold engine and, as far as i know, my engine is still fine. She just runs perfect ya know; maybe shes a factory freak?

But with my Camaro, I'm way more cautious. I wont rev it past 2500 rpms cause I fear bending push rods or anything else related to the oil. I really don't know all that much but I don't want to mess anything up so I'm just extra careful. Also I will let her warm up for 1 minute before leaving.

I just really want to know what others do!

P.S. I always prime the ignition before starting any car up.

i usually allow mine to sit for about 20 seconds before i leave, and when i leave i take it easy until it reaches operating temps. i don't think i go above like 2000-ish

Oil really needs to be in the 190*-210* range to be optimum. I never beat on my car till it up to temp. More power and higher RPM make this more essential with a LSx....

Turn the key to the point right before starting.. Ya know it beeps 5 or 6 times and in that time the engine spurts gas into the cylinders, tests the airbags and a few other systems and what not. And when its done I start the car.

I try not to get over 2000 RPM until 2 conditions are met. One is after I can no longer hear piston slap, and the second is after the car is warmed up. Although piston slap is usually gone before the car gets to normal operating temps.

I keep my ls1 at the lowest possible rpms possible. so since its a m6 I really only need to take it to a max of 2000 to get where I'm going. The reason I do it is because pistons haven't expanded yet and the oil will not be getting to the rotating assembly fast enough for my tastes.

2000 MAX, usually more like 1500 granny shifting (m6).

high rpms on a cold motor is begging for bearing failure. STOP doing that to your 3800 also.. your slowly destroying it even if it's not immediately apparent.

This is the biggest reason i never let ANYONE drive my car. Most people just get in, crank it up, put in gear and go. I always let mine sit for a min and depending on the temp outside will depend on how long i let it sit for. I keep it at the lowest rpm's possible until its at operating temp. Then I drive the **** out of it!

god when id go looking at cars before i bought mine, the salesman would always go drive the one or two i was looking at up to me and rev the **** out of it. i told him its bad since the oil is basically not getting a chance to to its job and theyd all say something along the lines of "these new motors can take it." this happened 5 or 6 times, maybe more. i never ended up buying one of those cars. mine was nicely covered from the elements as well as kept under a cover. dealer was really a car guy and knew what he was doing.

sorry to ramble, usually i granny shift everywhere im going so 1700 max id say. no beating on it until opertain temps are hit. i usually let it sit to warm up inadvertantly anyways, since i change CDs everytime i get it for the most part. plus i always seem to forget something no matter where im going

I ALWAYS let mine warm up for atleast a minute or two before leaving, and not going over 2200 until its warm.

Man is that hard to do with a stalled awfulmatic.

I try to let her warm up before doing much. under 2k until the slap goes away... under 2500-3000 until operating temp is reached.

Yeah thats kinda where I was getting at. The previous owner put a 4k stall in it and its hard to keep it under 2200-2400 when first starting out. The drivers around here are angry and aggressive.

I guess Ill just let it warm up longer before setting off on the road. Like people have said, ill just have to change the cd, forget something, and fiddle around for a bit longer.

Fire it up and drive away. Just keep the RPM's low until it's warmed up.

You want to get it up to operating temp as quickly as possible to minimize engine wear.

Guess you have to wait around idling though if your running a 4k stall.

I Knew I wasn't the Only one Who thought that Was Insanity.
How can you just get in, crank, and pull off? It blows my mind when I see it.

I don't take the car out of park till the car hits operating temp, and the heat blows hot. Even after then, I keep it under 1500rpm for a few miles.

I usually let it warm up until the temp needle is at the middle notch, then I still drive it slow and dont go over 2k rpms. Plus I love hearing it idle.

My junk don't leave the driveway till it's up to 210 degrees. ^ +1 for hearing it idle.

Well, on both my cars, I turn the ignition key, let it do all its checks and the fuel pump primes the lines, crank it up and let it idle for 10-15 seconds so the oil pressure has become stable and I drive off but take it easy. Nothing over 2500 and once the temperature needle begins to move I stretch my legs.

1500-1800 and I let the car sit for like a minute before I drive after first startup, maybe a little longer if its cold out.
