Default V6 and V8 Rear end the same?

do they put the same ten bolt in the v6 cars? would i have to beef it up to put an ls1 in a 98 v6 firebird?

no different in many ways. brakes are different, the ABS might be different. you will also have a LSD. and maybe the gears might be a different ratio. you will beenefit also if you have the rear sway bar and all from the LS1 car as well as the shocks and springs.

In physical size, yes its the same ten bolt. Its all the little details that are different.

98 and up, the rears are the same, except most v6 fbodies had a crappy open differential while LS1 had a limited slip such as a torsen unit. Also I don't believe any V6 had TCS, while many LS1s did. But that shouldn't matter much since you are swapping the LS1 into the car.

ok so what would i need to do in order to make the stock v6 ten bolt handle the power? like all the little things? or would it just be easier n cheaper to get a used ten bolt or go ahead and get a 12 bolt since i will most likely be hooking a bottle up? (seeing as i have the bottle and kit odds are highly probable for that lol)

it would handle the power for a bit, but would only be a one wheel wonder (no fun and bad for traction). I wouldn't put money into it, I'd get an upgraded rear instead.

well what kind of power? V6 power? not a problem. now i never got around to swapping out my rear when i did my V6>>LT1 swap. and that never blew i blew the tranny and the motor before the rear. i never launch on a drag tire or anyhing just some decent street tires. but the rear was fine and i wanna say i was somewhere in the very high 300 range. maybe 375-380. what kind of power are you wanting to put to the rear? and do you plan on leaving on slicks anytime? whats the mileage on the rears? have you pulled the covers? hows the guts?
