True but there are much more productive ways to spend that money... i could easily build him a 408 for 6k...

If it turns out you really need an engine, we have some of the 405HP LS6 long blocks in stock at $3244 shipped. You will have to change the oil pan/pickup, balancer, and pilot bearing. Other than that, a good tune and you are ready to roll. Give us a shout if we can help you.

i would say forged 347 with 243's and nice cam. You can get that for around $4000 if you shop right. then you will have 2k left for tune and misc.

i was in the same position man...
I ended up buying an LS6 long block from sponsor above...for 3000 shipped to my shop..
dropped in a VRX4, Ported FAST, put a Stall in my tranny, and called it a day.
i sold the LS6 cam, Old block, Etc, ect..i got back 1k from all the old parts
it all cost me 6k and some change..Best decision i could have ever made!
give scoggins a call man, they took good care of me...

LS6 or LS3. Don't waste your time on anything else. Warranty, 400+ hp with full factory bone stock drivability and minimal tuning. No big cams, no dealing with machine shops, no parts match up issues or compromises.

There was a guy selling a complete LS1 with 100k on it for $500 a few months back. Wish I would have jumped on it. There is a local one going for $1500 in my area.

The mechanic said it looks like it was beaten and had nitrous runnning through it at one point, he said the crank was broke.. I like the ls6 idea, does anyone know how much the extra parts I would need will cost
me? Like oil pan, balancer and if there's anything else i will need? I'm not sure if they have ever done a ls6 swap so I have to ask them about that does anyone know anyone capable around Philadelphia, pa by the way?

Go with the LS6 long block. If I roast my engine that's what I'm getting.

Just buy a used Z06 for that amount and call it a day.

Call Scoggins-Dickey and they'll tell you everything you need to buy and what to salvage off your old engine.

Regarding a shop, where did you take it CarX or Jiffy Lube? Go to a REAL shop that works on these cars. If you can't find one look up a local f-body club (use the internet) and ask them. Worst case (not really worst case, probably best case) take it to a reputable dealership to install it.

An LS6 or LQ4/9 is a direct boltin with all accessory/sensor parts interchangeable. The LQ motors lack one alternator bracket hole in the block but they will work w/o it or easy to tap....

go for some extra cubes if your getting something, its free horsepower! you could probably get a 408 for close to what you will pay for an ls6

Default ?s on SPDC LS6 motor

couple ?s on this LS6 long block.I've purchased from SPDC in the past you folks are very knowlegdeable about LS stuff.

?1.this is a completely stock motor and a complete motor minus stuff on ?.4?

?2. is it assembled at a GM factory?

?3.is it a brand new motor or a rebuilt motor?

?4.you say You will have to change the oil pan/pickup, balancer, and pilot bearing.
can't the LS1 oil pan, pickup (? I'm assumming you're referring to the oil pump tube)and LS1 harmonic balancer be reused?

if no to ?4. what is the additional cost of these parts.

?5.since theres no oil pan on a long block can ARP rod bolts be installed from SPDC?
if yes to ?5. how much extra $?

this LS6 appears to be a very good deal,

?6. just curious why only a 90 day warrenty? and to get this warrenty must the motor be installed at a GM dealership?

Thanks just looking to CMA when my baby blows.

Forget getting a wittle LS1 or LS6. Stroke that bitch unless you plan on getting an LS7 or LSX454.

Like the saying goes. There's no replacement for displacement

How much hp are you putting down? Ill be looking into getting a new engine sometime next year as mines over the 100k mile. My thoughts are this 405hp ls6, a forged 347 or going after a 408. Im curious to see what numbers you have since mine is also an auto.
