I don't have a lot of faith in what some car mags print . Plus there have been several times in the past when cars donated for track testing buy car makers or private owners have been greatly tweaked and had some unmentioned changes. Maybe this car was just a Factory Freak. Either way, the owner has a nice ride.

SS = Z28 = SS = Z28 when it comes to 1/4 performance. Same gears can be had on both. Only SS that would have a slight edge would be one with Y2Y SLP options, such as dual/dual catback and/or Blackwing lid. Otherwise, SS = Z28 = SS = Z28. The SS hood is really worthless for performance, and the *slight* weight advantage of the hood, plus the *slight* flow advantage of a base SS muffler are both negated by the additional unsprung weight of the SS wheels and tires over the Z28's stock setup.
And if you've never seen a stock LS1 Z28 run better than a 13.8, you need to hang out with people who have some remote clue of how to drive their cars. PLENTY of stock LS1s have attained very low 13s with some record cases of high 12s stock, going back to 1998.

even with an SS, that has the better exhaust and unrestrictive air lid, you'd have to have a tune , and i believe you'd have to fix wheel hop / improve suspension. (very common problem stock). before you ran 12.7, if you have the factory freak of all freaks, congrats. and ps on a normal dyno our cars stock have 285 to 300 rwhp A4 & 295 to 310 rwhp stock so 305 is not a bad #. i could bring my car to a anoka mn dyno " high tech" which gives inflated #'s of around 340 stock rwhp if you want me to. i've seen as low as 271 rwhp on a mustang dyno A4 stock.

As for the power numbers, the point was that these cars are rated between 305-325 at the flywheel stock, when they often make 305hp at the rear wheels stock.
