Default How to quite down the Sewing machine Ls1!

Well ever since i did the cam swap last year i got the famous sewing machine noise.I know this is a common thing with some ppl.I was just curious what some have done to make it less noticeable. To me it seems the sound is more the Injectors opening and closing that is very noticeable, and a little lifter sound. All parts are in working order so its not that .Just curious what some things to do to help because im so paranoid i think something is going wrong with the car lol

Info on my car is
Tq v2 cam
Lt headers
xpipe
Comp cam lifters
Stock injectors
LS6 intake
Stock rockers

I've read that some people use GC oil and it quiets their motors down some...I dunno...

It's more than common, it's almost everyone with an aftermarket cam & valvetrain.

Louder exhaust maybe?

Probably not the injectors, if the noise wasn't there before the cam swap. You list stock injectors below, so if you didn't change them it's not what you're hearing now.

Then what makes you say this?....

i was just being thorough with what was changed because i know that is the first thing ppl ask. Is well is their any parts not in working order.I already have full exhaust, xpipe, with tail pipes any louder and the Local D.O.T will hate me more lol he is already looking for excuse to write me a ticket.

I know its common but some seem to have more issue with it,I know the car is in proper working order minus the shitty 10 bolt.

And i know im paranoid RPM lol but its not a bad thing just makes me keep things in check and always looking to improve somehow

I have a LQ9 With Comp R lifters and a XER281HR, close to the Torquer V2 cam. Mine also sounds like a sewing machine, especially when i romp on it and hold it at mid-high rpm. Can't think of a "quiet" cammed or otherwise modded motor LOL

As others have said, there is nothing wrong and nothing you can do, short of returning to stock, to delete that noise.

Truth is, even a stock LS1 is a bit noisey.

I think everyone is just a little bit paranoid when they put a cam in an ls1 for the first time. You just get used to it.

Its obviously a valve train issue. What pushrods did you use? What length? I measured for mine and my motor is super quiet. Not all camm'd cars are noisy, anyone that tells you that beware.

What are the specs on your cam out of curiousity?

They make some noise stock, even with a new motor. A more aggressive cam makes that worse. Some level of noise increase after doing a cam is totally normal and sending someone on a parts changing mission to try and "fix" that may be a waste.

Of course, if it's excessive noise then something is likely wrong. It's impossibile to tell that over the internet though.

I've got that cam, it's noisy as hell. I've checked PR length, even added more preload with 7.425 PRs, helped a little, but still noisy. I've just learned to live with it. It runs good though!

I guess loud valvetrain means different things to different people. I have to agree with RPM however. The engine is pretty noisy stock, and can only get louder with an aftermarket valvetrain/cam.

no i dont want it to be dead quit i love the way it sounds ,its just gets old sometimes hearing the valve train where it is a daily driver.I know its very common to get the valve train noise i knew this when i did the swap.I just figured as hardcore as some of you were you knew a way to make it less pronounced .

As in i was thinking of adding some Sound matt to the underside of the hood or something. The car runs damn good for cam only .Lifter preload is in check .

on my '71 i have adjustable valvetrain, i was able to mess around with lifter preloads. adding preload def quiets it down. i run minimum preload (.020) and in my case gain better stability at idle and better midrange. ill take the noise for a better runner. i feel headers add a lot of that ticking sound too. watch the video and when i come around front you can hear it.

Don't use royal purple if you're paranoid now. My 228/230 got louder with royal purple for some reason. I didn't mind though
