that is why i don't drive my car in the winter. it's rust free and i want to keep it that way. i don't want to have to deal with that **** again.

Looks like it might be the only way now, I usually like the gas and stabilizer to wooosh around and mix, but its going to be too hard to wash it after if it does get salty. My GTP now has a THICK layer of salt on it and its only been 5 days!! undercoating/powerwashing the unders helps, but not really

Thread should be renamed "How many store your car for snow/salt", because obviously, folks who live down south, not much reason to store for the entire winter. Maybe a couple days here and there. But in Ohio, my car is stored from November through April.

i probably would drive it year round and just not drive it on the snowy days but with as much salt as they use, thats what does the real damage.
FWIW those pics i posted above were of a 93 tbird in feb 2004. so a little over 11 years old (i think it was built in late 92) the rust holes i found in 2001 so the car was only 9 years old.
by contrast, here's an underbody pic of my T/A taken a few weeks ago at 15 years old (october 94 build date)
both cars had roughly the same mileage (mid-high 120k's) when the photos were taken

Rust really is a cancer. The amount of work that's required to properly remove it when restoring a car is very intense. If you don't do it perfectly, it will come back.

My car gets stored for at least 6 months of the year. Right now outside it is -35 degrees F with a bitter wind and icy roads. My car is tucked away while the daily driver battles the elements. Our winters really kill a car quick due to the temperature extremes and the moisture.

No because I live in the south and we still get shitty weather. Its not just about the salt!Winter is winter no matter how you look at it.I know most guy's dont drive unless its 65 or warmer with the sun shinning.Winter time is when alot of us do mods on our rides for the spring.Mine is up on jacks right now doing a complete suspension overhaul. It will take me all winter as I will take my time.

my car sits in the garage year round unless its a weekend or time for a bath. Im in tx so i see snow maybe once every 5 to 10 years. A dd is a good investment, i let my cobalt take all the winter beating

this is the first time my car is outside of florida for a winter. do you feel the coldness makes the car rattle more? because is so creaky now with the cold plastic just wondering if it will accelerate loosening up the interior.

i just noticed a weird spot on my fender well lip right above the pass side rear tire. i hope this isn't rust. the other side of the fender (that you don't see, is clean as a whistle so i'm guessing this is just a paint blemish from the factory. Since my car hasn't seen a single winter i don't see how it could be rust forming.

Well, I really can't see anything in that pic. But,...
....not sure where you got the idea that winter is the only thing that causes rust. All you need is water and bare metal. A chip or scratch that penatrates past the primer, plus exposure to water and air will create rust. No salt is needed.

for some reason it seems like there is an extra layer of metal on the edge of most of my inner fender well. like there is a lip of rustproofing or something.
same area closer in
