Average LQ4 cost from junk yard?
I'm looking for a good used LQ4 for a carbed 408 build. I've been searching the local junk yards and haven't been able to find any great deals. I've heard about people getting these engines for 400-700 complete. The best one I've found so far is $995 complete with 75K miles.
Is that a decent deal or should I keep looking? Also does anyone know how much I could get for the parts I don't need like the stock crank, rods, intake etc?

People like to brag about the deals they find. They exaggerate sometimes so you never know.
When I was searching for an LQ4 the best deal I found was from LKQ, $1499, had 55k miles on it, but they pull it for you and it comes with EVERYTHING. It was as close to a crate engine as you could get.
Having said that, I didn't buy it. I found an 2000 corvette LS1 for $1100 with 40k, sans intake manifold, oil pickup tube, and oil windage tray. I was going to get a carb intake for it anyway so the fact that it didn't come with an intake didn't bother me.
I'm not the best at finding deals though. I know some guys that are really talented at finding badass bargains - in fact there are some posts on this forum from guys that have bought LS1 cars for like $700 or something ridiculous like that. lol

You will need a custom flex plate for you to bolt your M6 to the LQ4.
This I found on another forum
"The only big issues you run into are the knock sensors and the cam sensor. Depending on the years (and my memory is fuzzy here) But on the 6.0 the knock sensors and cam sensor was relocated to the side of the block.
It's an easy fix, places like Texas Speed, Thunder Racing sell extension harnesses so it's all just plug and play."

An LQ4 is basically an iron block LS1. The early 99-00 LQ4s had iron heads and a longer rear crank snout which would cause trans mounting issues. Other than the early year motors, they are virtually the same. Same knock sensor location, cam sensor, crank sensor. Everything bolts to it just like it would an LS1.

That is what I used, 2001, 317 heads, bolted right up to my 6 speed ( used my LS1 flywheel). The only issue, if you are using LS1 accessories, will be the mounting of the alternator.
