Any time you have no cats, you'll have those strong fumes....OUTside the car though. If you smell them inside while you're driving, then you have a leak somewhere.
All I have to do is stand behind my Nova for a couple mins when it's idling and my pants smell like a tail pipe for the rest of the day. I like it.

Unless you install cats, there is no way you're going to get rid of that smell from the tail pipes. However, as I mentioned, if you can smell it in the cabin while cruising down the road, then that's a problem and you have a leak somewhere. If it's just a smell she notices around the car when it's idling, that's totally normal.
If my wife complained about that smell, I'd buy her a resporator before I'd consider changing the exhaust.

I like the smell of raw fuel in the morning when the car is cold.... not the smokey smell when it warms up.
the cars interior will absorb some of the smell... it makes it through tiny holes when your at a traffic light, in the driveway, etc.

Buy her one of thoses Pine Tree airfresheners that people hang on the rear mirror. And hang it around her neck next time she complains.
P.S. If it still too strong get her a lemon one too!

mt GF says the same thing, I have a stock exhaust. she claims "shes sensitive to pollution" but i thi nk she just smells the sulfur smells from crappy Arkansas fuel (I stopped at the only sunoco around here once and got 94 (this place is 30ish miles away), and she didn't complain at all that week)
i have no exhaust leaks.

But if you're cruising along at 30mph and smelling fumes inside the car, you gotta have a leak somewhere.

I found the leak it was the right side clamp on the y-pipe. I took the clamp off cleaned all the suit and rtv'd the **** outta it and put the clamp back on and then put rtv around each side of the clamp
