As stated, the main thing is conventional oil makes the seals swell more than synthetic, especially older seals, so switching can cause leaks.

The only reason I ever heard for this (leaks) happening is that the syns are so good at removing dirt, sluge that may be present, that will cause leaks when removed. I received that info years ago when I was in the same situation and called Mobil customer service. OBTW no leaks occured. The only down side i would need to add a qt. between oil changes.

only Mobil 1 for me. They even have a 75k+ option if you want. Mercedes, Porsche, and a bunch of other manufacturer's use it as factory fill for a reason.

So if synthetic cleans better then why in hell would you want it sitting in your engine for an extra 2k longer than conventional? It just dosent make sense to me. If synthetic cleans better then wouldnt it be dirtier then conventional at the 3k mark? So you want dirtier oil sitting in your motor for an extra 2k?
I usually just use the conventional pennzoil 5w30 at 3k with a new filter.

But once everything is cleaned wouldn't there be less stuff to sit in your engine? Haha that's just what I would think.

I'd say if your engine is that dirty then you have other issues. Not yours specifically but in general.
