You're fine. Most people on here run synthetic oil
regardless of mileage. I run Penzoil Platinum.

75,000 is perfectly fine to start running synthetic. In fact most car manufacturers recommend that you start using synthetic at 75000 miles. You will however possibly get some leaks because synthetic is "thinner" than conventional either way go for it.

Like said above, if you have any sort of leaks you may notice them get a bit worse with synthetic. That's the only thing I've ever seen happen when switching on a higher mileage motor. Otherwise, you will be fine.

75,000 is fine. I've been using Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 since I got the car. Let me tell you, I've never seen a cleaner bottom end and oil pan in my life.

You might notice a little more seapage(sp) than what your use to, but I'd say you will be perfectly fine. I run Castrol Syntech 5w-30, the owner before me (1st owner of car) ran it the whole time they had it too.

Really? Please post a link to that claim. I'd love to read the scientific explanation behind that steamy pile of bs.

I think he's refering that synthetic doesn't swell the seals as much as dino oil.

That's my guess. But, I'm no engineer, just an end product consumer.

this

This is the truth about running syn in a higher mileage car. Period. Syn is not "thinner" it just cleans better, so if you have a leak its gonna clean the gunk outta the hole, making a leak worse. Thats the only problem. And who cares - Fix your leaks!

Pretty much any time you want is fine for switching to a synthetic. And there are actually two reasons why it causes leaks to show up that don't with conventional. The first being that yes it does clean things out rather than putting sludge in them like conventional does. The second reason is (ironically) the same thing that makes synthetic oils lubricate a bit better than dino oils. Though syns are not truly "thinner", the molecules are smaller, thus making it squeeze through tight spaces easier.

penzoil platinum is one of the better synthetic oils out there. Don't get me wrong, you'll never find a "bad" one, but PP always ranks pretty high in used oil analysis. Combine that with being one of the cheaper ones and it's what I use.

This is a pretty good article. It explains that synthetic oil molecules are all uniform and small in size, as opposed to conventional oil that has small, medium, and large sized molecules. Hence, synthetic oil is "thinner" than conventional. And also cleans better, as someone else stated.
