Default Does the VIN # plate come off with the dash?

A friend of mine is junking 2 98+ f bodys, one a v6 and the other an old LS1 car. Both have lived a long life but niether runs and their time is up, lol. Anyway we were wondering if someone needs a dash from one of them at the junk yard would they get the VIN# too or what? Is there a way we can pop it off? I guess he just worried about it. We know the VIN is posted in other areas but the dash one seems the most easiest to take if needed.

I don't believe the VIN is attached to the dash. It's definately not attached to the large dash top piece. I'm guessing its rivoted to the body.

The vin is permanantly attached to the body, it is not on the dash.

I have bought a dash before, and the only spot the vin was on it was the glovebox, (1995 car with the RPO codes in the glovebox)

Ok, thanks. So its not easy to get the VIN off then?

I told him to report to the DMV or get a bill of sale from a junk yard or something along those lines to get it in the system that he no longer owns the cars but hes still cautious.

Thanks for the help guys.
