Need some oil selection help!
I want to start running 10w40 oil in my Camaro. I have been using full synthetic mobil 1 5w30....
I've had good luck with Mobil in the past, and they only offer 10w40 oil on their High Milage oil. My SS has 45K miles on it. Its not recommended to be used until 75K miles.
With that being said... Should I look to go elsewhere with my selection?? I know Amsoil makes a fully synthetic 10w40 oil, but I dont think I'll have easy & cheap access to it.
What are my options here for using 10w40?

Valoline VR1. I think they have a 10-40 but I'm not sure. I've ran 20-50 VR1 in my SS before with no problems. The owners manual calls for lower weights in order to help with passing emmissions.

I use VR-1 in my Nova, because it contains high levels of zinc for old, flat tappet cams. As far as I know, the only multi-weight versions of VR-1 are 10w30 and 20w50. All the rest are straight weight (30w, 40w, 50w, 60w).
The only 40 weight that I'd recommend for a stock LS1 would be Mobil 1 0w40 (or 5w40), since their 40 weights are on the thin side of the spectrum and very close to a thick 30 weight (which is what LS1s seem to like best).

My oil pressure is a little on the low side. Its about 27psi after its warmed up.
I'm putting a new oil pump in soon... And this would just be a temp fix for the problem until I have enough time for the install.
I fugured a 10w40 oil would give me a little more oil pressure and bump it back closer to where it should be while the problem still exists.
After I fix the problem, I will be back to Mobil1 full synthetic 5w30

Using a heavier weight oil only increases pressure because flow is restricted due to the thicker oil. It doesn't mean that the pump is actually pumping it any better.
