hmmm, I tow dollied my 94 with auto for around 20 miles... didn't take the driveshaft off... it seems okay... what might I have damaged? I always thought you could tow an automatic because the driveshaft spun the pump that moves the fluid around.... I did have it in neutral.

Just back the rear tires onto the tow dolly and you won't have to worry about disconnecting the drive shaft. In my '94 the front bumper didn't scrape even on MI roads like this.

The pump only truns when the engine is running. Towing with the driveshaft in spins the internals of the tranny including the clutches in the clutch packs, but without the pump running there is no fluid flow to cool the clutches and you could burn them up if you tow it far enough.

20 miles probably won't hurt anything, but for long distances you need to disconnect the drive shaft. Wonder if you can find some sort of plug to go in the transmission so all the fluid doesn't leak out?

Does this apply to any vehicle? i.e. Ford, Dodge, etc.
