Alright let me start by saying i live in michigan, if you do too, you'll know why im asking this. Im just curious as to how well A 98 Trans Am would drive in michigan snow? right now ive got a lifted 98 dodge ram 1500 and im thinking about selling it to get a 98 LS1 trans am, which has a little over half the miles my truck has (truck is at 124, trans am is at 70k) so would this be practical to drive?

hell no. First of all, you should be punched for driving it in the snow with salt on the roads. Second, F-Bodies are horrible in the snow. Try taking off in one in the snow from a dead stop. It's a PITA. Hills are out of the question if their is any snow on the ground and you don't have momentum. I have a Z71 and a fwd car for the winters. Tried my car for a month in the snow and said **** that.

Where you two are I would say no. I'm in central Indiana and I think I would have no problem at all. We get maybe 2-3 snows a year of 6 inches plus and it's off all the roads 24 hours after it lets up.

Sell your truck, get the trans am, and save a little money for the winter to buy a 1000 dollar FWD beater.

4 skinny snow tires and a bag of salt in the trunk and it will be fine. People did get around before FWD was invented.

Now, your Trams Am club membership has been revoked for even considering the thought of driving your TA through a salty Michigan winter. You will mess up the car.

well im 19 and going to be in college so i wont have money to just buy other cars lol, which is why i was curious, engine wise this car will last me longer than what i have now, but unfortunately it would see snow until i had money for something else.

Good set of blizzaks and you'll be fine. Just make sure you wash the salt off the car from time to time and it won't hurt it.

^ What Camaroz said. The best thing when driving on salty roads is to go to a carwash that hoses down the underbody too.

What he said. Its completely doable with a good set of tires and some weight in the trunk. Its only an f-body, not a ferrari.

Its fun as hell driving in a camaro in the snow only if you are planning on doing donuts! We had the worst winter in nj this year and i had to go about 3 miles down the road with about 6 inches of snow on the ground and it was multplying by the second and it wasnt bad actually. The worst part was trying to climb a hill. I didnt take it out in the two feet of snow we got but i dont think that wold have gone over to well. It is possible though, just take it easy and be very alert to your surroundings and whats ahead of you. Honestly i would stay with the truck in the winter and buy the car for the summer if you can

I drive around no problem in Chicago winters with an LS1 F-body, all you need is good snow tires and some weight in the trunk (I use skinny Blizzaks plus 100lbs of gravel). It will be as good (or better) as any FWD car at that point.

I have DD'd my camaro for 4.5 years. Two 45lb dumbells in the back and a shovel. I only drive the car if I get stuck in the middle of the storm. If it snows and I am at work / school, I always left the car and found another way home. My Dad has driven his ws6 through everyting since it was new.... all 186k miles. Drive smart.

I have no problem driving in the snow. I have a set of General's winter tires on my stock wheels for snow and never had any issues. I kept a bag of concrete in the trunk and a full tank of gas and never let a little frozen water stop me.

i live in upstate ny and i will never ever ever ever let my z see any snow or salt that thing stays stored all winter i bought a $200 89 toyota camry for the beater.

3-4 years of DD for me here 4.10s m6 on 245-50-16 BFG gforce all season tires. Couple of bags of salt or sand bags in the hatch a shovel or two and you would be surprised how good they are in the snow. Just wash the the salt off the car and you will be fine

Not everyone can afford 2 cars. Yeah maybe he can pick something up for a few hundred but then he either has to insure both, or keep taking one off the road every change of season. Weight in the back, snow tires, and many trips to the car was and you will be fine. Ignore everyone bashing on you for driving in the snow.

No, no, and NO. People may say putting some snow tires and weight in the hatch helps (which it does), but these people also probably live in flatter areas. I know here in NE PA where we have all sorts of hills, dips, turns, my car SUCKS in the snow and I DO NOT drive it unless I want to have someone pull me out.

Do not get rid of the truck. you will regret it in the winter so F'ing bad, in MN and ND I store my camaro for the winter/rainy season for many reasons, - tried to drive it in snow 1/2" deep, didnt even make it off the cement slab because there was a *slight* angle. I know it can be done and I've driven a rear wheel 70's muscle year round in snow, but don't. Wait till you can afford both.

Seriously, listen to people that actually drive in snow for more than 2 months out of the year. Go get a winter beater. You'll regret the first time you get in an accident and wreck the thing.
