Default Almost freaked out today

I changed my oil today and after tightening everything back up and putting the oil in I started it back up to check for leaks. Then I almost had a heart attack. For like the first 3 seconds the car was running I had no oil pressure. I was like holy **** the motor blew!! Then shortly after the pressure built back up to 55 or so pounds ha ha. This was the first time I actually changed the oil because since I bought tires last spring I got a years worth of oil changes for free. Overall though my life is probably 5 years shorter now because my heart about blew out of my chest lol.

Yeah I have been doing everything else except the oil lol. I mean free is free you know? Plus the place I had the oil changed at is a good place and I always brought my own oil anyways. It was easier to have them throw it up on the lift instead of me crawling around in my driveway lol. Today was a little scary though it caught me off guard.

What a scare.

Try pre-filling the new oil filter next time

Truth. I fill mine to the brim every time.. Have to keep refilling it, as the filter media keeps sucking it up.

Avoids those 3 second dry starts after oil changes..

You could hear it if it was dry of oil

Unless you have a diesel, prefilling the oil filter is pointless.

Ah well, it makes me feel better at night. If it only takes a few seconds more, then why not? It only makes sense to fill it up, as it has to fill before you get oil, correct?

On airplanes you have a 20 second window for oil pressure. You only shut it down if you don't get anything after 20....I think you are ok with 3.
