Default help

I bought a 98 z28 in March 01 at a dealer with 24k miles. 6k miles later it I was slowing down to pay a toll when the car started shaking and sounded like someone took a jack hammer to my hood. I immeadiatley turned offf the car because I didnt believe that my car could produce such a noise. Then i started it back up... same noise.... shut it off, pushed it through the toll and on a flat bed and back to the dealer it went. I was told that I threw i piston through the head and cracked the block. ( I couldnt see any damage under the hood.) The dealer odered my a new Ls1 motot. Once installed they told me that my trans was blown too. ( I never had a single issue with it prior) At this point the car had 30K. After a whole month of waiting I deciced to go visit my car at the dealer on a sunday when they are closed only to find my car pulled up to a garage bay where the doors were locked but the lights were on and tools were banging, clanking, and people were talking. I banged on the door things went silent. $10k later i was up and running again. New motor new trans. But now I had an motor that didnt idle as smooth as the last one and i was burning a quart of oil between changes. I went back to the dealer and they told me flat out Im an ***hole get out!!! At the same time a friend of mine who worked at he dealer told me that motors were going missing as well as whole brand new vehicles. He also told me that The mechanic working on my car ws building an ls1 car and was in need of parts. 30K miles later my trans went again.

How can I know if the motor and trans was ever really replaced or did i donate $10,000 to someone elses project????

Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I would think if you go to a different dealer, you could have them pull up the maintenance history on the vin number and see what was replaced. Engines and transmissions have a serial number tag so you should be able to match what is in your car to whats reported to be there. Thats the only thing I can think of. Thats a pretty crappy situation, but LS1 and 4L60E are pretty cheap now so you should have a lot easier time getting it fixed.

I think you pay to much for the new engine and transmission!! I would of taking it to another shop!! for 2 reasons one to double check if the engine really went bad and second with that much money you spend you could had a performance shop make you bad *** stroker engine!! I really think you donated $10K!! if your friend work there how come he didn't at least check it before you took it to the dealer!! how hard were you going or pulling to blow the engine and trans??

In that case I think you would be SOL. If the car isn't running right, I would wonder if they used a later motor on the 98 PCM. If they are as shady as you say that might have happened and caused some tuning issues due to the different cam and intake. The easiest way to tell, go out and check if you have center bolt valve covers and coil packs attached directly to your valve covers. If not you have a 99+ motor in there. Check the head casting number as well, if you don't know where it is it will be on the front pass side right behind the EGR solenoid.

This all happened in 02 when i was 18 and the car was in my dads name. Every timr I went to the shop and asked questions I was told its not your car we dont have to talk to you! I had my cats spit out my exhaust 3 times after this and the first to times it was covered under warranty and the third time they told me they tested my fuel and found octane booster in it and thats why it was happening. I never used ovtane booster just 92-93 octane. Then once again I was cursed out by the manager and thrown out!

Wow, did you talk to anyone about this back then? I would not have tolerated that **** being 18 or not. I edited my post up above check your valve covers and heads to see if you have a 98 replacement or not.

Just recently the car started to have a slight hickup that turn into a sputter. Now it boggs then stalls and blows out some smoke but starts right back up. And now IJust purchased heads, cam, intake manifold, etc etc etc. Im not going to install anything until i figure out what the problem is. I had a mechanic check the fuel pressure and he said it was good. He sai to try plugs and wires next...

My roomate has a 00 ss and i compared the vale cover and coils to mine and they look the same. My coils have a bunch of wires on the passenger side that the 00 doesnt. I also checke dthe numbers on the intake manifold and both cars read 12560688 right next to wher it says firing order. When i ckecked the numbers on the head behing the egr selinoid my 98 says 241 and the oo doesent have a number there. For th record the 00 is 100% stock.
