The prices your quoting don't support your statement. These cars' values increase exponentially as their mileage decreases; it's not a linear relationship.
The value on low mileage, clean cars has risen since last summer. I'm looking for a low mileage, "collector" WS6 now and am really upset that they seam much more expensive than they were just a year ago when I didn't have the funds.
And to throw my numbers into the mix, I paid 11k for my 12.2k mile T/A last summer... and I considered that a fantastic deal.

It is all where you are/what someones willing to pay/what someones willing to sell for. I put my 106k mi camaro up for sale for 2 summers@$10k can, just recently sold it for almost 9k, took forever and was a pain. The car was far from mint, but in good condition overall and taken care of. got lots of tirekickers.
I put my 99WS6 w/32k mi up at a hugely inflated price of 27k(what i had paid for it like 6 yrs ago) and still recieved calls on it, I have reconsidered and will try at all costs to keep the car. My mentality is I can justify the price as ALL the maint is up to date, car has always been garaged, avg of 3k mi a yr, not a scratch, FIND ANOTHER ONE in this condition......and I am in no rush to sell it and would more than likely get another one if I did(prob within months)
All depends on the car its rarity, location etc etc. I still see the TA's, mainly WS6s commanding a good premium, Camaros selling for 2-4k cheaper for the same equipped/milaged car

Zach, my friend, 1978 Corvettes?? If you are talking about the Indy Anniv versions, those were one of the biggest bombs in collector car history. You need to watch an auction once in awhile before throwing examples out there. Those cars were supposed to fetch 6 figures one day. Buyers have been scooping them up for prices in the 20's for years and years. I mean 'new' time capsules with very low miles. Even this month's Hemmings has two pristine examples that they can NOT sell for $30,000. One of them has a Bloomington Gold COA with the original non-applied decals. You gave a poor example and maybe you shouldn't be giving the OP advice or slamming one of the mods when you really do not know or follow collector car pricing. Owning an 88,000 mile example is NOT the same thing. I'm sorry you can't appreciate the true value of a MINT low mileage F-body.

Yes, you paid a fair price for a daily driver, average mileage LS1 car. I paid $11.8k at a dealer back in '07 for my '02 Z28 that had 70k miles at the time. I wouldn't have paid more for a daily driver either. But none of that has anything to do with showcar quality value.
These are not ultra low mileage cars. And we know nothing of their condition (there's a big difference between a "clean" 20-60k mile car and one that's a weather-free garage queen with 5-10k miles).
A smart collector won't pay more than is necessary to get what he wants. People collect for different reasons, it's not always about flipping the car in a year or two and hoping to get the same or better money. The problem is, you seem to think that people would be crazy to pay more than $15k for even the lowest mileage/highest trim level F-bodies. However, the fact remains, you aren't going to find this hypothetical ~5k mile mint '02 SS for the prices you're quoting. It's just not out there, at least not anywhere near my region.
It's all speculation. Most '78 Corvettes aren't worth much either. '63-'72 A/F/X/Y body cars are where the big money usually is in the General Motors camp.
A good friend of mine is a 3rd gen collector. He just sold a mint, 1st place national show winning, 2,700 mile '91 GTA for $18.5k. It was sold to another '80s GM collector. Most people here would probably see a TPI 3rd gen as being worthless, but that's just not the case to everyone. These things aren't a matter of opinion really, it's just a matter of supply and demand. If you want something, and it's not easy to find, you have to pay more. There are exponentially more ~40-60k mile LS1 than sub 10k mile ones.

Be very wary of scams on CL. You really need to do your homework. Autotrader.com, Cars.com, and of course ebay are places to look. Get a Carfax on any car you are seriously thinking about. It isn't foolproof, not by a longshot, but it is a helpful tool in your overall decision making. Good luck!

It's always an inevitable battle when you have cars that are "clean" than you have cars that are true PINS from top to bottom, never seen weather, still sound, smell, drive and ride like they did when the original owner signed the papers for it at the dealership.
People always want mint, immaculate cars but don't wanna pay for them, it's that simple. If you want a car that's far more than just "clean" that yea, 10-12K isn't out of the ordinary. Clean is something I would consider my daily driven 01 Impala with 40K miles that I paid around 5 grand for. Not an immaculate pin.

BOBBY 5...99 6spd artic white 32,000 miles I'm the second owner...I would post it for like $13,500 or so for some haggle room and sell it for $12,000. I live in the midwest. It has been garage kept since it was bought in September of 98. Just to give you an idea of midewest pricing. I found really being garage kept and kinda being kept in the gargage was the biggest difference and hardest thing to tell apart when I was looking for my SS.
