Says on their site services goes active 3 days after you pay. Figure I leave my car in the lot for 3 days and get AAA to tow.. If I hire someone to tow it will cost over 100 bucks.

i believe if you call them (AAA), they would be able to tow your car the second you pay them the membership fee.
that's how i signed up with them many years ago, when i still have LT1.

Also can anyone tell me when the per year tows reset? Is it at the start of the new year or from date of membership?
* All members are eligible for four road service calls per membership year.
** AAA Plus roadside assistance benefits become effective 3 days after payment has been processed.

How far is your car from the destination that you want to take it? Here in NC the miles are limited and if you want more its $3/ per mile. Just something else to take into consideration.

If you have any questions about AAA, go to the AAA website or call their customer service number. They have always been helpful when I called. I would suggest it would be wise to investigate costs of the RV-Plus program. The tow bills add up quickly when you break down outside of the 10mile free pickup zone. It only takes one 50-60 mile tow to pay for years worth of the upgrade.
I would suspect the year goes from the date your membership begins.
