Default Full exhaust/Lid = 400 engine horsepower?

Is it safe to say that most ls1 cars with just a full exhaust and lid will make 400hp?

Nope. Full bolt ons, exhaust, and cam would get you around 400. But not what you mentioned above.

What in the world are you guys talking about. Full exhaust, lid, and a mail order tune will get you anywhere from 340-350rwhp, or ...400 or more "at the motor". Read the title of the thread. Sorry OP, the guys above were thinking rwhp.

Full exhaust (meaning LTs, ORY with good Y-merge, 3" catback/cutout or true duals) plus a lid should make around 400 flywheel horsepower with a tune, on a perfect running otherwise stock LS1.

400fwhp is roughly 328-340rwhp (15-18% drivetrain loss). So yes it is possible.

We tend to forget that most cars are rated at the flywheel, and yes you can safely assume that. I think an LS1 sans accessories with headers on an engine dyno makes right near 400.

Cool. I figured everyone would assume I was talking about rwh. Just asking because every time someone asks me how much power my car has I say 350hp. (rwh) and they say "thats it"? lol I think non car people are always assuming you are talking about power at the flywheel.

Agreed. If they're car people I just tell them around 300 at the wheels, non car people I say 350 and they're happy, lol

oh yeah, if I'm talking to people that aren't really car people I tell them the HP at the fly. If I tell them my rwhp they think my car is "slow". Same reaction as above, "that's it?"

Same here, when I was telling people what my truck was making at the wheels they always have a dumbfounded look on their face, "Isn't that less than what they have stock?". Also love the people that don't believe cars are ever under or overrated.

They are talking about LS1's. You have an LS6, which btw looks like a great number for a bolt on LS6 in an Fbody!

Yep, 243s and an LS6 cam are more than bolt-ons for a 4th gen F-body.
