Man a lotta hate about the SS badge. Why not hate on GM? They are the first ones to take a Z28 and throw an SS badge on it!
P.S. I also do not care for cars that are badged incorrectly, but **** - talk about beating a dead horse.....

I agree on both counts. I wouldn't do it either, but it's not like a "real" SS comes with any better performance than a Z28, other than better handing of the 17x9 wheels.

Thats why I bought an SS, I like the spoiler, hood & the Chrome ZR1s so I figured it would be cheaper to just buy a real SS. If I did buy a Z I dont see nothing wrong with making an SS clone out of it. A lot of guys on here did this(with V6 cars as well) & really got some sharp looking cars. The SS package just looks better.

Hmm, really. Anyways to the OP don't worry about the badges. The SS wasn't built from the ground up other then the exhaust and better shocks there really isn't a difference.

These days, it's hard to find really nice used F-bodies in my area, so I'd be more concerned with things like condition, color and other options than I would be with Z28 vs SS trim level. I think this is why we see a lot of clones now; if someone really wants an SS but happens accross the perfect color/option/condition Z28, it's easier to just add the SS appearance stuff rather than to keep hunting for the perfect original SS.

An SS with a Blackwing and/or dual/dual would in fact have a bit more HP. But you could add an air lid and catback to a Z28 for the same or better effect, and for less money than those *additional* SLP options through the dealer. The only arguement that makes sense for buying the SS is if you want the cosmetics....nothing that GM did to the car on the assembly line helps it to make any more power (unless you want to count the extra 1.5hp from the 2.5" tail pipes, vs the 2.25" of a Z28
)

Like it's been said, the SS is mainly just an appearance package. I have no issue if someone wants to make their Z28 look like an SS.
I do have a problem when guys put Z06 badging on regular Vettes.
