HAHAHA ! you may have a point there man !

But I have a grand am for daily driving. Just more practical as a DD, and is cheap on insurance/gas/ parts which makes more room for mod money. And if the GA gets totaled or hit in a parking lot or scratched, salty, dirty etc. I car far far less.

That orange 1000 crossfire is another sled I highly recommend.
Something I've been wondering:

how does the crossfire compare to the F series overall in your opinion???

Also throw the mxz in there also. I'm looking for one that would just be good all around (wouldn't ever race/jump really).

I appreciate your input, this seems to be the comparison of comparisons in the sled world (cross vs. f7)

Insurance would be about the same for me on a Grand Am or a V8 Camaro. Not sure how old you are, but once you're 25+ with a clean record, insurance is all about the same for similar aged cars. Just as an example, I also have an '04 Cavalier, and that car actually costs slightly MORE to insure than my '02 Z28 (both full coverage).

But I understand what you mean. If you're the sort of person that needs a useable back seat or a big trunk, or wants a gas saver, then a V8 F-body isn't the best choice. It's surprising how well it drives in the snow with the proper tires though.

The crossfire is very similar to the 03-06 F series. The front end is almost identical, crossfire has a wider track (15 in. vs 13.5 in.) & usually longer (136 vs 128 in for the F-series) but you can get an F7 EXT which is 144 in. long. In 07 they changed the F-series to be more like the REV chassis but the crossfire didnt change. Crossfire is basically the newer version of the older Firecats with some enhancements, push button reverse & available 800 & 1000 cc engines to name a few. All these sleds have really good suspension, after riding one you will not want an older sled. I ridden a few of each & thats why I bought an F7. The crossfire is nice but I didnt want a new sled, you can find a nice F7 for around $3500.

I have rode my friends 01 MXZ 800 & its a great riding sled. Plenty of power too. I have rode a few older MXZs like 98-99 670s & they didnt ride nearly as good as the 01 did. There was an 02 MXZ 800 for sale here for a good price recently, if I had the extra money I wouldve bought it for a spare sled. Another sled to consider is a ZR800 or 900. My friend has an 05 ZR900 & it rides like a Cadillac.

The F7 is the just about the baddest 700cc sled you can get, & theyre light. Mine weighs 435 lbs. They say the 03s are the fastest(not sure why exactly)
I really like the F7 but if I bought a new one it would be a crossfire 1000.

Sweet man thanks.

Do you know if there is any real advantage to the larger track of the crossfire over the firecats?

Wider track= more contact area for better traction & stability. Longer track absorbs bumps better & can go through deeper snow better without getting stuck. Thats why the mountain sleds have longer tracks, like 162 inches. More snow in the mountains= real easy to get stuck with a shorter track.

We got hit pretty hard too but not as much. We got a lil over a foot where we were riding just south of Cadillac & about 7-8 inches at home.

Yea I wish we had that much snow here. How were the trails? Ride up near Lake City at all? I ride out of Grayling but usually make my way towards Lake City and Kalkaska.

My sled.

We usually ride around Grayling & Frederic & head north, & thats where we were at Saturday night because we knew that big storm was coming. It snowed hard there but they only got 6 inches that night & it didnt help the trails much. We rode from Frederic to Starvation Lake, trail 679 was really dirty & we heard Evart & Cadillac got pounded with a foot or more so we headed to Evart. We rode trail 30 to Reed City, then trail 5 towards Cadillac but turned around half way. Those trails were just about perfect, lots of snow but there was quite a few trees down on the trails that we had to go around. We will be going back up this weekend near Evart, my buddy that got me into sledding has a cabin just south & we are gonna trailer to Caddy & hit their trails.
