Give in to the Vette bug?
Ok guys, need some opinions. I recently got an offer on my SS for $17.5 CASH. I wasn't really wanting to sell but the offer seems too good to pass up and YES I know he's good for it, it's a good family friend. The only thing I ever really thought of getting rid of my SS for was a C5 or C6(which is out of my price range so most likely will be a C5). The only thing bugging me is I have a lot of blood and sweet in that car and really looking around at some Vettes I see I will be starting all over again, which doesnt bother me too much as I love working on my cars. Really I just wanted to see if any of my fellow Camaro owners would ever consider selling their car for a C5 or even owning one for that matter.
Also if any younger C5 owners could chime in with your opinions(I'm only 20)I'd love to hear your opinions and any advice on looking for a Vette.
Thanks!

I was 23 when I traded my maggie 04 GTO for a 99 FRC...... MISTAKE... I regret getting the c5 FRC... I sold it and got my SS.. If someone offered me that much for my SS I'd sell it, but i wouldn't get another vette.. Maybe its just me, but I thought they looked sweet and always wanted one, but after owning it I quickly found out it just wasn't a "fit" for me..

See that's another thing I've always been a muscle car guy and a newer Corvette IMO just isn't a "muscle" car. So the main thing I'm asking is if you were in my shoes and you sold would you get the Vette or another F Body?

I would definitly sell it. Getting the vette all comes down to personal preference. Do you need more than 2 seats? Do you need extra cargo space? Do you like canyon carving or are you a more straight line speed guy? The answers to these questions should help your decision.

Yes. As stated before the offer is 100% good. It is from a family friend. He named the price and pulled his bank account up online to show me the money was there.
And I would LOVE to have a C6 don't get me wrong but at 20 it just doesnt seem like a smart decesion to pick a car payment up ALONG with a large insurance bill. I will own one one day with any luck but it just really doesnt seem to reachable right now.
And honestly I'm into both. I love straight speed but I also do A LOT of road racing and autoX with my father which I'm getting more and more involved with that scene.

I'm kind of in a similar situation right now, just not the offer part. I am selling my TA so that I can get something else. I've been looking at old muscle cars and FRC vettes. I actually found a FRC that I really want, but I have to sell my car first.
Why wasn't it a "fit" for you? Just curious since that's one of the cars I'm looking at.

If you have someone willing to offer you that much for your Fbody, then sell it. Nothing against them at all (I've had an 02 SS Camaro) but that is more than it is worth in this market, although a car is only worth as much as one is willing to pay.
Out of my 45+ cars, including camaros, vipers, old school muscle, my 02 S/C'd ZO6 is by far the most enjoyable car I've owned. I have also had an 02 'Vert which I bought new in 01.. Great cars and for what you want to do, I would look at an 02-04 low mileage C5Z, as it is tough to beat the performance for the $$. IMO.

I have had both a F-body and a FRC for the same time for the past 3 years. Let me start off by saying I have had 11 4th gens and NO 4th gen F-body is worth 17k I don't care if it has 10 original miles. If you got that offer SELL ASAP. Anyway there is a night and day difference in the 2 cars. My F-bod is my daily driver and the C5 I take out on weekends. The handling and overall feel of the car is night and day. The C5 is starting to feel a little dated to me. I actually may sell mine soon to get a C6. Another thing is you actually get acknowledged in a Vette by other Vette drivers unlike F-bodies. Also the events for Corvettes are alot better if you are into that at all. Good luck! BTW FRC > Coupe Here is mine that may be for sale sooner or later
