Stop me from trading my 2000 Z28 Convertible for a 97 Boxster

I agree, if it was that easy I'd be a car salesman in a heart beat My post was more of a response to people throwing the idea out the window because of brand loyalty or personal opinion about the car.
The tags, title, license, registration, and insurance are a good point. For me, cheap insurance is easy to come by and VA's registration fees are prerty much nominal. Cali may be a completely different story.

From purely a financial standpoint I would make the trade and then go get another car.
I would ask my wife to accompany me to the exchange so she could drive the Boxter straight to another car dealer -- I wouldn't want to be seen driving one. In my humble opinion, the older models are just as gay as a Miata. Sure, sure the new Boxters are faster and Miata's can be great road course cars but I'm just not down with either.

Wow. A lot of haters in here. I don't understand why a Boxster is a sad excuse for a Porsche. If we look at Porsches as a brand, their hallmarks are:
1. solid handling
2. excellent braking
3. smooth gearbox
Porsches aren't known for insane HP numbers or earth splitting TQ. I'm not saying I would own a stock Boxter but just because it isn't 911 does not mean it's not a Porsche. That's the biggest crock of **** I've ever heard. The Boxter falls right in line with the mid/rear engined Porsche breed.

I would suggest having a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done on the Boxter.
If the old guy is legit he shouldn't have anythiing against this.
If he freaks I'd walk away....
I would use the Porsche forums to find a Porsche specialist shop in your area and not use the dealerships if possible.
Now, if he wants to do the same with your car you'll have to recriprocate.
I'd think $100 should get you a pretty good look over.
Seems to good a deal to be true.

So heres the facts.
1. Either way you will be selling the car, z28 or boxter.
2. You are doing it so you can give him your cheaper value camaro for the boxter and sell it for a profit.
The only way I see this working is IF the Porsche is in pristine condition and won't break down on you for the short term you own it.
If everything is good with this car, you will sell and make $3000 more instead of just selling the camaro.
The key is to get that Porsche inspected properly by a person that knows them.
The worse case scenario is that Porsche always needs something replaced for the short time you own it.
