Default My "tune" **** came off

A few days ago I did some DIY modifications to the Monsoon head; I integrated an AUX jack for an iPod and placed it in the non-existent ASR switch location:

Works awesome. Anyways, when I was taking out the Monsoon head unit, the "tune" **** on bottom fell off. No big deal - I'd put it back on later. Well, it won't stay on now! Anyone familiar with HOW exactly this piece is retained on the protruding metal dowel? I tried some threadlocker blue with no success. Am I just not putting enough pressure on it for it to "click" back in? Or perhaps I'm missing a retaining ring or a washer of some type?

Mine was a half circle like yours and it just kinda poped back into place. Does it look like anything is broken off on the inside of the ****?

'OP are you the original owner of the car? Your half moon looks...out of shape, and it looks like there's some sort of adhesive there, presumably to have helped hold the **** on after it originally broke. Just put some more goop on there to hold it on again. I might have an extra one laying around if you wanna go that way...

thats threadlocker blue that he tried to put on but it didnt stick. OP like someone said you would probable have better luck with super glue of some sort that is intended for plastic to plastic, not metal

Yes, the metal clip is on the shaft still. You'll have to clean all that threadlocker off, glue the crack in the plastic circle it goes into, and try again.

Or, like me, you could get a **** off a Buick or Chevy out in the junk yard. I took several and used the one that 1)looks ok, and 2) works okay.

Someday, maybe I'll get a correct ****.

Remember, thread locker is for threads. You'll need superglue. Think it through about ten times before you even open the glue.

Well, I used threadlocker because I want to be able to remove the ****, should I need to take the faceplate of the head unit off in the future. That tune **** is never touched so as long as something is there to hold it "somewhat" in place I'm fine with that. If I use superglue, however, I'm going to have a hell of a time getting the faceplate off, should I need to.

I'm going to examine the metal clip when I get back up to my car storage..

Why would you use threadlocker? That's for metal on metal contact. You can try hot glue - it will hold and not be permanent.

The hard part is getting the super glue in the crack in the **** itself, and getting it to not crack again once the **** is slipped over the shaft. I don't think it can be done, personally. And I only took the darned thing off once or twice, very carefully. They definitely are built like a rock.

Since I was already in the junkyard when I thought that another **** might fit, I grabbed a handful and put them in my tool bag. My car isn't so pristine, and I'm not so picky any more, that it looks bad enough to actually spend money on a fix.

However, some day maybe. I did spend the time and money to get get a CAMARO insert to put in the holes where the switches go above the radio. Filling those damned holes WAS important...

I had some time to visit my car today and see what's going on with this **** - the metal retaining piece inside the tune **** was in tact, but the plastic that holds the metal part flush was cracked inside. This was not immediately noticeable because the inside of the **** is so small.

So I'm going to pick up this part from the Chevrolet dealership; if anybody is interested, it's part number 16195409, and it's $12.00. Damn dealerships.. I did look for it online, but the prices for shipping outweigh the cost savings on the part itself.
