Hey everyone.
Car in question is a 98 TA. Engine burns No oil, car runs like a top, no noises tons of power. Original owner put on 300,000km of daily HWY driving. Car currently has 323000. Only mods being FAST intake, longtubes and catback. (LID aswell, but idk if that counts
).
My question is i commute 200km a day PURE hwy. Literally sits on hwy for 190-200km each day (90-100km each way). Im still driving winter car currently (which is a honda, and i work for honda dealer so i just do my own oil changes every 4000-5000km). But with the TA, What is seriosly the highest KM you could go safley on syntheic. I am running Royal purple in it currently, but last few years it was purely pleasure car, did not commute with it.
If I were to run royal purple, could I go 8000-10000km in between changes? I feel weird doing that. Id rather run conventional and change every 5000km. I hear so many different storys. If it was you, and you were driving all hwy (some city on weekends or whatever) with a full syn. When would you change the oil?

With mostly highway driving, 8,000 -10,000km is no problem at all for a quality synthetic oil, especially with a problem free engine like yours. I just can't comment on your plans for RP. Never used it.

Mine only has 110k miles on it, but it really seems to like Rotella T6. I'd still change it every 3k miles or so though, with an engine that has that kind of mileage, I wouldn't chance it and let the trash gather up in the oil for 6-8k miles.

If you're going to do change intervals like 3 months/3k miles, I would not waste money on synthetic oil.

I have a TBSS that I purchased new. I have always changed oil when the dash indicator shows 5% or less, which is usually between 12,000- 15,000 miles. I use mobil 1 synthetic and have never had to add oil between changes. It currently has 124,000 miles on it. If your vehicle is using oil I would definitely change at 5,000-7,000 mile interval at the earliest. You are wasting money changing it at 3000.
