Default Front Marker Lights/Camaro/Bulbs blowing/Burning sockets/Leaking/Is there a Fix?

I have had this problem since day 1. I am SICK of buying new sockets/Bulbs. I have an 02 with DRL's and I guess they get too hot or something. I have burnt sockets, bulbs and the amber lenses.
I also have been getting water in the lenses. I have used sealant. No luck.
Does anybody have any suggestions? Thx

Are you using the correct bulb?
Have you considered deleting DRL function to reduce load?
Did you inspect the wiring for shorts, or if its melting together? Trace it back and see what you find.
Last, have you replaced lenses also? If so are the aftermarket? If not, try getting some OEM or high quality replacements.

Good luck.

I am using 3157's and I have considered LEDs.
Is there a way to delete the DRL function? I think I read a thread about that.
I have inspected all I could. Its just melting the sockets and scorching them.
I have replaced the lenses with OEM and aftermarket. No difference.

Thanks for replying Crispy!!

My 02 Z28 and my 06 Silverado both had this issue, swapped out the bulbs for some SMD LEDs, no more problem and the LEDs look great.

I havent seen any modern ones in the parts store, old LED types only. I found some good ones on Ebay, they were cheap and work good.

They draw almost no power and dont really got hot. Have you owned an LED flash light yet? the batteries seem to last for years.

Drill a small weep hole at the lowest point of the housing
so water and vapor can exit.

If you are burning sockets, it's probably due to contact
corrosion / resistance (from the water). Try working some
graphite (#2 pencil) into the socket button contacts to
scuff off the crust and improve the contact. I've done
this to a number of '60s / '70s beaters over the years
with success.

If you go the LED route, i believe you will need an electronic flasher.

I deleted the DRL's on my Z28. IMO it's due to heat of the bulbs and heat from the sun. I had a Florida Highway Patrol B4C parts car and the lights burned their way out of the light fixture, not just the socket. I assumed it was from sitting all day running possibly facing the sun, like the police are known to do on highway patrol.

When I looked for the instructions to delete the DRL's I found a lot of pissed off people complaining about safety issues. I don't see it as a safety issue because I used to own a 2000 S10 and you could shut the DRL's off by pushing the dome light over-ride four times in a row.

Thats what I did. Drill some holes and then use lamp grease and put it on the lamp and socket. It keeps the moisture from getting into the socket.

There are already vent holes in the housing. How many do you need?

You need one, at the lowest point where water
will sit.

I got some aftermarket lenses installed. It rained the day after I put them in. I had about an inch of water in the pass side lense This was after putting silicone around the sockets!
So I pulled them out, Dried them off real good(Hairdryer..lol) And Siliconed ALL around the whole freakin lens...BUT, I did drill a hole in the lowest part of the lense so the water will run out....I know it will get in there somehow....
Thanks Jimmy!! We will see how this works...

Drill small holes. REPLACE THE SOCKET. You can get them at the parts store. It's really easy.

I've had the same problem since I purchased my camaro 5yrs ago and I've thought about the DRL delete, but I love the way the Camaro's look with the DRL's for some strange reason.
