All manufacturers are buying products from the cheapest supplier, bidder. It wouldn't surprise me if Ferrari parts are being made in China these days!
"Made by" humans is all that really matters. "The best", will always be subjective to opinion. If we don't like the facts then we don't buy the products and support the companies that are involved.
If we whine and complain about 'where' things are made we might as well beat our heads against the wall. What the heck is going to happen if advanced aliens from outer space actually did exist and want to sell us car parts? Probably nothing since we are all complaining about each other they would see easy oppertunity to take over the world!
Just my 2 cents

This link is fairly accurate for dates and years models were moved around and where they were made...

This is directly from the "Consumer Information" sticker that was stuck on the window of my '98 Camaro when it was brand new:
PARTS CONTENT INFORMATION
For vehicles in this carline:
U.S./Canadian parts content: 86%
For this vehicle:
Final assembly point: Ste. Therese, PQ Canada
Country of origin:
Engine parts: United States
Transmissions parts: United States
Note: Parts content does not include final assembly, distribution, or other non-parts costs.
----------------------------------------
So, regardless of where the LS1 was assembled, it seems that the parts were produced in the US.
I have no issue with Canadian made or assembled stuff. If it's from Canada or USA, I'm happy. What does not please me is the asian made stuff, and I would like to avoid it as much as possibile.

Remember back then that the Canadian dollar was very weak compared to the US dollar. Of course not true anymore but great bang for the buck back then. Having plants in Canada was very cost effective. My wife and I used to take vacations north of the border just for that reason. $100 motel rooms in Toronto or Montreal, wherever, equated to about $70 U.S. and sometimes even lower. Same with meals, everything was like 30% off.

The only thing I pay attention to is the country code on the car (First number in the VIN 1-USA, 2-Canada, 3-Mexico). Other than that, parts can come from anywhere these days.
