Used to run penn plat 5w30. Switched back to valvoline synthetic 530.

When we were tearing down a friends 5.3 which had pp in it there was a good deal of sludge in the oil pan. Dont know if its related to pp or not.

I use Castrol Syntec 0w-30 (The German formula) and a K&N oil filter. Maybe it's overkill, I dunno but everything is working great.

WOW! I can't believe I'm the only one that runs Motul8100, but then again, not many like the idea of spending $18/L

Well Pennzoil always claims to remove a bunch of sludge so maybe it's doing the job? It will sit in the bottom of the oil pan because it has no where else to go. I'm guessing that's a good thing I'm not sure though lol.

I used Mobil 1 5W-30, same that's been in the car since before I got it. Everything runs great, super smooth, and pretty quiet other than the light lifter ticking.

FWIW, and it's my opinion, but people put waaaaaaaaaaay too much time and effort into oil choices. Just find a weight you want and get whatever. Most everything the commercials show is just hype and advertising anyway.

Amsoil and no issues. It is pricey tho.

I have heard good things about Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic, thinking about checking it out.

Castrol GTX. I've run a few cars well past the 200k mark with GTX and regular change intervals.

I heard the formula changed with the Rotella synthetic... something about less zinc now so it may not be worth it anymore.

Am I the only one who thinks all this hype about "oil x" is really THAT much better than "oil y"? When I worked at my dad's quick lube, people would come in and demand we give them Havoline, or Castrol, etc...only bc their redneck hillbilly parents used it and they have some story about their cousins best friend who blew a motor up using something else. Come on folks....it's like some people are so ignorant that they will ONLY use Shell Gasoline, or HAVE to have a certain brand medicine. Oil, for the most part...is oil. Sure, you have synthetic, blends, etc....different weights. But brand to brand...the only big difference is the marketing hype that comes with it. "Sludge protection, zinc, yada yada yada"....bullshit. IF you take of your car the correct way, it 100% does not matter which brand of oil you use!!!! This will allow you to get whatever is on sale and spend that extra money towards gas at the track!
