Default What oil are you running in your LS motor

This spring I'm thinking about trying Penzoil Ultra 10-30. Had Penzoil Platinum 10-30 last year. The years before that it was mobil 1 10-30. I switch between the mobil 1 filter and the purolator pure 1 filter.

Car only comes out from months of april to sept. so the oil just gets changed once a year in the spring time. In those six months it only logs about 5000 miles.

Only bad experience I've had with a motor oil is Royal Purple. It was the only oil to make my engine sound noisy. I've heard some people swear by it but I didn't like it.

I'm running mobil 1 5w-30 and change my oil every 3000 miles. I just did a cam swap and my engine was clean as could be on the inside looked like a 40-50,000 mile motor but really it has 169,000 miles. Lol

i voted Castrol syntec, even though i use Castrol edge. i use to run Mobil1 10-30 but after i switched to Castrol edge, it made the internals a lot quieter. and its cheaper than mobil

I've been using mobil 1 but I'll be switching over to pennzoil platinum this summer since mobil 1 stopped being a class VI synthetic oil. Haven't chosen a new brand of filter to go with it just yet.

I don't ever change the oil. I just stick with the assembly line fill. It's been fine for 13 years. LS1s will run forever, with or without oil. Sometimes I can even get it to run without any gas in the tank. What a great engine.

The only oil i ever run is castrol. My old 00' Z28 i ran regular castrol GTX 10W-30 and never had any problems. Now with my current 02 Z i run castrol syntec 5W-30 and no problems at all. No oil consumption issues, loud valvetrain or anything.

Synthetic:
Motul 8100
Amsoil
Lubro-Moly

Oil Filter:
Amsoil EA is rated the best
Canton is #2
Wix is a very good filter too (NAPA)

And Lucas is a good additive for the oil

Good info on oil filters with cut open cans

I also like Red Line fluids for the Trans and Rear, and Transfer Case when I had my 3000GT VR4

I doubt it since it is $35 a QT , but has any of you use SynLube Lube-4-Life motor lubricant (it's not an oil) or the MicroGlass Motor Oil Filter? It bad *** ****!

http://www.synlube.com/

I'm thinking about giving it a try in my 450 stroker once I get it broke in, but at $250 for the oil change, I'm gonna want to then myself, but then again, it's good for 50,000+ miles

BTW - I was joking if you didn't catch on

Valvoline syn 10-w30 it is the only oil with a motor mileage guaranty, now that is standing behind your product.
The reason, Valvoline refuses th pay GM a royalty the qualify as a long drain replacement oil for GM's new Dexos world use, syn blend, long drain oil. So Valvoline just warr. the motor themselves.

havent changed the oil in the camaro yet. will soon. but in the 8 sec turbo s10 and 10 sec nos blazer i run castrol gtx. simple and damn effective. the nos motor has went 9s for 3 yrs on spray had a 6-71 blower on it and is 13 yrs old. still looks like a new one. it gets a tear down and new bearings every 2 yrs. though. turbo motor i just pulled looked brand new inside. couldent tell it had ben ran on the bearings, the cyl were moving a lil but no pistons scuffing. i guess the stock block did its job running 8s for 3 yrs. now i got a dart block it will get castrol. gtx as well. i change oil about every 2 events. so about every 4 miles. lol on e85
