The coolest thing about it though... Is it's plenty fast STOCK and I don't have to worry about getting random tickets while driving it (exhaust/tires/tint etc.)

As an aside, that friend now has a C6Z, the capabilities of which are just insane. But he says that in some ways he liked his C5 better.

Depends on supporting mods and pulley size. In most cases it wpuld be a very good race with the edge going to the cobra. After 110 or so the z would ha e the advantage. Heads cam and supporting mods and you woupd need an aftermarket blower, kenne bell Whipple etc.. a nice heads cam stock intake z can take out a ported pullied cobra.
Aerodynamics, weight, gearing.

First thing I modded when I had my M6 '01 SS.
Although, you can use it to your advantage when shifting from 3rd to 4th. You rig up a switch and hit it when you shift into 4th so you don't accidentally shift into 2nd.

I've wanted an 02-04 z06 since 2003 when I graduated high school. I bought a brand new Celica GT-S in 05 for gas mileage and for the same price I could have bought one I still kick myself for that choice. I have told myself for the last four years my next car would be the z06 but I keep settling for other stuff and then blow all my money in mods. I start law school next year so it looks like I still have a four year wait but I am sure it will be worth it. Just keep your mods simple with it I knew a guy who just kept it stock with a cam+tune and ran mid 11's with perfect drivability that would be what I would do.
