Default Oil pressure sending unit?

I have a 98 SS with about 140,000 miles. Last time I drove it the oil pressure started randomly dropping. At times just cruising I'll hear a click and it will bottom out. The oil is fine and there are no other rattles/knocks or anything other than a cylinder missfire that I'm pretty sure is in-related. Could this be a oil pressure sending unit? If so is this an easy fix?

Im not sure if that is your problem, but if it is, the OPSU is a fairly easy fix. You do need to however pull the intake manifold off to get to it... as it is in the back of the engine. This may sound difficult if you've never done it... but after having to have to pull an IM 4 times already, I got it down to under 2 hours, tho my first time it took me over 4, but I was way careful. Its not hard and this could be a good time to swap to an LS6 IM!

Not true. I swapped mine with the manifold on. Just search for a picture of where it is on the motor so you have a metal image because you have to do the whole thing blind.

I have never done it with the IM on but with the right OPSU socket I have seen people on here say they have done it so get a socket and try it first for sure.... behind the IM on the DS block...

Yes get the socket. You can definitely get to it without removing the intake. I have fun it plenty of times

I guess I can see how you guys are doing it without taking the IM off. I still say pull the IM, upgrade to LS6, and do the OPSU with maximal ease.

If its true that you dont have ls6 intake then im with ^ him on pulling the intake.
I never had to change mine but heres a pic from uder the car when I had my trans out. See the yellow connector? The OPSU is the black cylinder looking thing standing straight up on the left of the yellow connector.

Nope, from the top. As stated above, go to a parts store and get the $10 socket and you'll be good to roll. Unless you ahve the means to upgrade to an LS6. Then it's pry worth it to swap.
